Aeon Timeline: Outlining Made Easy Aeon Timeline is a great way to plan a novel. I broke down and bought Aeon Timeline. It was $39.99 in the AppStore, but so far it has been worth every penny. Even though there is currently not a Windows version, I have found the program to be probably one of the greatest tools for planning out multiple story arcs, keeping track of character relationships and viewing all of the subtle nuances of my novel at a glance. After watching a detailed video tutorial found on Scribblecode’s website, I was off and running, plotting out my fictional future timeline with ease. The interface is simplified down so that an author can choose to place three different types of markers on the timeline: events, entities and arcs. Sparklines for Excel®: Treemap. How does it work ? Inspiration I did some research on the net and mainly used Jonathan Hodgson's post on codeproject.com, dating from june 2004, that describes the Squarified treemap technique. The Squarified treemap algorithm is explained in an academic paper related to Human Computer Interaction (HCI) by Ben Shneiderman of the University of Maryland. You can find here his excellent explanation that I followed to write this User Defined Function for Excel.

The Five Best Tools for Creating Videos Without Installing Software Over the years I've published some lists and reviews of free tools for creating videos online. Quite a few of those tools have been for creating simple videos that are really just automated, audio slideshows. See Animoto for an example of this. There's nothing inherently wrong with having your students use those tools, but at some point you will want to take your video projects to the next level. Free mind mapping (and related types) software I see regular inquiries on Twitter and in forums from people looking for free software to support visual thinking. To provide answers, InformationTamers have put together 14 pages to help you find the one for your needs. These show the platform, a screen thumbnail and a link for more information in each case. We built this article using the most complete source for details of information mapping software on the Web: Mind-mapping.org. Hat tip to Vic Gee who put Mind-mapping.org together and kept it up to date for years. [I took over that site in August 2013 - Roy Grubb]

Meme Generator Bill O'Reilly. You either love him or you hate him. Most on the internet either hate him or love to hate him. With his brash, domineering, bullying, know-it-all personality, it is easy to see how this has been translated into a meme. It is one of the more obvious ones. There are many Bill O'Reilly-isms, which are covered in the variations, but the main one for this meme is based on a phrase he has uttered multiple times, “You can’t explain that”, referring to various issues and events that he has deemed totally unexplainable.
