Engaging Museums by Dana Allen-Greil » A fictional artist and The Monster at the End of This Book! This is the second in a series of posts about my experience as a student in the MoMA-led MOOC “Art and Inquiry.” Looking forward to hearing your thoughts! If you are also a student in the course, I encourage you to respond via the Coursera forum. Practice Developing Open-Ended Questions After a review of different kinds of questions and their role in inquiry-based learning, we were encouraged to try the technique for ourselves. Here are the instructions we received (I encourage you to try it out, even if you aren’t taking the course!). Cats (and People) Who Quilt Return to the main tutorial page. Return to the main page. Buy the book "Cats Who Quilt." Buy your cat the "Certificate of Membership in the League of Cat Quilters." Make your cat very happy.

The current state of open in higher education For many, open initiatives within higher education may have begun when The New York Times declared 2012 as "The Year of the MOOC." According to the article, "Traditional online courses charge tuition, carry credit and limit enrollment to a few dozen to ensure interaction with instructors. The MOOC, on the other hand, is usually free, credit-less and, well, massive." Today MOOCs may not be living up to the hopes (or hype) of many of their original proponents, but the concept of developing and delivering educational content online is now certainly common practice.

Open Content, An Idea Whose Time Has Come A New Commitment to Sharing the Getty’s Digital Resources Freely with All Today the Getty becomes an even more engaged digital citizen, one that shares its collections, research, and knowledge more openly than ever before. We’ve launched the Open Content Program to share, freely and without restriction, as many of the Getty’s digital resources as possible. The initial focus of the Open Content Program is to make available all images of public domain artworks in the Getty’s collections. Today we’ve taken a first step toward this goal by making roughly 4,600 high-resolution images of the Museum’s collection free to use, modify, and publish for any purpose.

10 Ways To Teach Your Kids To Have A Fearless Mindset As a parent, you want your kids to grow up to be confident, happy, and successful adults, able to face the world head-on and make the most of every opportunity. But what can you do to help them overcome the fears that might hold them back? It’s worth remembering first that fear serves a purpose; it’s a natural human emotion to warn us of possible harm – a call to action to protect ourselves. However, in our modern world, fear often tends to be out of proportion to risk and can prevent us from achieving as much as we would like, and are capable of. Here are 10 ways to help your kids develop a fearless mindset and overcome the fears that are holding them back. 1.

gluten-free-sandwiches-recipes_n_2638647 When it's lunch time and you're starving, the solution is simple: Grab a sandwich. The task gets complicated, however, when you're gluten-averse. Before you resort to a sad Tupperware filled with wilted iceberg, know that you, too, can have a sandwich. And you don't have to buy that expensive gluten-free bread to do it. Download Influential Avant-Garde Magazines from the Early 20th Century: Dadaism, Surrealism, Futurism & More “I’m tired of politics, I just want to talk about my art,” I sometimes hear artists—and musicians, actors, writers, etc.—say. And I sometimes see their fans say, “you should shut up about politics and just talk about your art.” Given the current onslaught of political news, commentary, scandal, and alarm, these are both understandable sentiments.

Art and design The current national curriculum programmes of study for art and design at key stages 1 and 2 have been disapplied with effect from 1 September 2013 and are no longer statutory. This means that schools are free to develop their own curricula for art and design that best meet the needs of their pupils, in preparation for the introduction of the new national curriculum from September 2014. Further details are available via the link on this page. Art and design remains a compulsory national curriculum subject at key stages 1 to 3. New statutory programmes of study will be introduced from September 2014. The disapplied programmes of study for art and design at key stages 1 and 2, and the attainment target level descriptions, are accessible from the links on these pages.

Sarasota Bay Rancho! Educational video games Sarasota Bay is the largest body of water between Charlotte Harbor and Tampa Bay and there is a rich history on its shores. Archaeologists can trace more than ten thousand years of history in the region. One of the most important chapters in the modern history of Sarasota Bay is known as the rancho era. Children's media culture, media literacy, and media criticism “Have courage, and be kind.” This sentiment recurs throughout Disney’s new live-action Cinderella. From the moment Ella’s dying mother offers her this advice, it becomes the driving force in Ella’s life and the through-line in her characterization by actress Lily James. Imbuing Cinderella with courage and kindness has a purpose: Director Kenneth Branagh uses it to give 2015’s Cinderella more agency than her cartoon predecessor from 1950. After all, in the broader media culture, bold, empowered young women are on trend (think Frozen’s Anna and Elsa, Brave’s Merida, and Hunger Games’ Katniss Everdeen). Passive victims like Cinderella, Snow White, and Sleeping Beauty are passé, out of step with modern values.

49 Life Skills Every Modern Woman Should Have This isn't the same world that our mothers and grandmothers grew up in, and although some things never go out of style (like good manners), a lot has drastically changed in the last half century. So, here are 49 life skills every modern woman -- at least if she's between the age of, say, 22-66 -- should embrace in the year 2014. 1. Make at least one great cocktail. I make a mean Pomegranate Margarita, and here's how I do it.
