Eco Nest Plan This 1434 sf home was designed specifically for an off grid building site. It's floorplan allows all spaces to be easily heated by the solar gain or by the woodstove at night. The main bedroom has its own bathroom and there is a cozy sleeping loft above the dining area for guests. The screened porch expands the living area to encompass the outdoors and the storage room will hold the bikes and garden tools. A 'living roof' completes the greening of this unique eco-nest!

Its a life-size lego set that can create entire economies, whether in rural Missouri, where the project was founded, or in the developing world. Norcal veteran coder customizes with sensors off-grid home Loren Amelang once helped code for Silicon Valley companies, but he’d always been sensitive to environment so when his employer installed fluorescent lighting and wouldn’t let employees use their own lights, he decided to move to the country and craft his off-grid dream home. Architect Designs a Sunflower House Where ‘Form Follows Nature’ The hallmark of modernism in the 20th century was the idea that “form follows function.” Now, architect Koichi Takada is challenging designers to create a new architectural movement focused on environmental responsibility. He believes that in this new style, “form follows nature.” His Sunflower House responds to this call as a single-family home designed to create its own energy. It was commissioned by Bloomberg Green in order to meet the standards of a greener future for Europe. How to build a Blackhouse In the pictures above (left and right) you can see how the oat straw thatch is fixed to the stonework and kept in place by ropes and stone. The oat straw was replaced regularly and the old thatch was used for fertiliser. Above (middle) is the central open fire with a bed alcove (Pattern No. 188) in the background.
