The Power of Mind Maps to Build Your Career Master Plan This past week, I worked with one of my clients from the career coaching program to create her career master plan. She is a young, smart, and motivated entrepreneur finding her way in this world. She has lots of great ideas with plenty to offer the world. What we needed to do for her was to build her career master plan with a mind map through brainstorming, idea organization and categorization. We decided to accomplish this using the most powerful tool I know, a method that I have often used with clients, students as well as in my own projects, that of mind mapping! “Mind map is a picture outside your brain of how your brain thinks inside.”

It feels like a solid, powerful, and practical tool for managing action, and I'm pleased to say it's steered clear of a lot of the GTD-ish visual theatricality that, in my opinion, has made some of the apps out there more pretty and fun to use than they are useful in the context of a mature, streamlined system. I mention iGTD here because, in playing with it yesterday, I turned up this excellent page about iGTD's Quicksilver integration. Pretty mind-blowing (albeit geeky) stuff, since the detailed syntax allows you to enter tasks via QS from anyplace, while still identifying project name, context, priority, date due -- and even allowing you to add a note.

Microsoft Equation 3.0, the default equation editor in previous versions, is still available and can also be used in Excel, PowerPoint, or any application that supports Object Linking and Embedding (OLE). See the course notes on using Microsoft Word '97 for the old equation editor for more information.
