A GUIDE TO BRITISH LANGUAGE AND CULTURE Given that in mind, and noting the ignorance of British English and culture in many stories set in Britain, but written by (primarily) American writers, I have compiled this little guide to English language and culture. Please feel free to send suggestions for more things to be included to Brian@rescueddoggies.com If you find this page useful, please consider making a small donation to the animal refuge I am struggling to run in Argentina ( The present financial crises has seen donations plummet to almost nothing, while prices of dog food have sky-rocketted. You can read all about the refuge at 1) EDUCATION - as the vast majority of stories written by foreigners and set in Britain are about Harry Potter, there is a separate section on Education. The most common mistakes are GRADUATION and PRINCIPAL/DIRECTOR, neither of which exist in British schools.

Teenage slang A helpful guide to understanding teenage slang One of the themes of BBC School Report News Day is language, so we asked children in different parts of the country about their language and found that teenage slang differs wildly. We are all British, right? We all speak the same language, surely? Not according to a very unscientific survey carried out by BBC News School Report. Fun Quiz - Harry Potter Sorting Hat Quiz You might belong in Gryffindor, where dwell the brave at heart. You might belong in Hufflepuff where they are just and loyal and unafraid. Or yet in wise old Ravenclaw, if you've a ready mind. Or perhaps in Slytherin you'll make your real friends, those cunning folks use any means to achieve their ends. Take this quiz and find out.

When in doubt, go to the library." — Hermione's book dependency[src] Minister Hermione Jean[18] Granger (b. 19 September, 1979[1]) was a Muggle-born[19] witch born to Mr and Mrs Granger, both dentists. Offensive and Defensive Spells Offensive and Defensive Magic A wide variety of spells can be used as an attack, depending on the creativity of the caster. And 'Cho the one that I want' is one of the very best puns I've ever heard. Bravo. (Deleted comment) That's not Hermione's cat.

Listen to english This is one of the school meals which Martha Payne photographed for her blog. She had carrot soup, pasta with meat and vegetables and more carrot, and yoghurt. Today we visit Scotland, to find out what a Scottish schoolgirl thinks of her school meals. And because the European Cup Football matches have reached an interesting stage, and poor old England have been knocked out by Italy, this might be a good time to learn a new football expression. Martha Payne is 9 years old. She lives in a small community in Scotland called Lochgilphead. Dracorex Dracorex is a dinosaur genus of the family Pachycephalosauridae, from the Late Cretaceous of North America. The type (and only known) species is Dracorex hogwartsia, meaning "dragon king of Hogwarts". It is known from one nearly complete skull (the holotype TCMI 2004.17.1), as well as four cervical vertebrae: the atlas, third, eighth and ninth. These were discovered in the Hell Creek Formation in South Dakota by three amateur paleontologists from Sioux City, Iowa. The skull was subsequently donated to the Children's Museum of Indianapolis for study in 2004, and was formally described by Bob Bakker and Robert Sullivan in 2006.[1] However, Jack Horner et al. suspect that it is a juvenile Pachycephalosaurus and an analysis of pachycephalosaur fossils by a joint team from the University of California, Berkeley and the Museum of the Rockies has questioned the validity of two named genera of pachycephalosaur, Dracorex and Stygimoloch. Harry Potter Wizarding World Theme Park in Orlando, Florida Despite the many responsibilities of those attending Hogwarts, there is always room for downtime to experience some of the delicious treats that can be found in the wizarding world of Harry Potter sweets. First created in 1997, the Harry Potter books detail the life of an orphan who soon finds his calling as a wizard. As well as a series of novels published by J K Rowling, there were also several movie adaptations and spin-offs that have ensured Harry Potter is as iconic as Indian Jones, Star Wars and Back to the Future. When watching the Harry Potter movies, it would be easy to assume that the candy enjoyed is only available in the world of the young wizard, but this is no longer the case thanks to So Sweet.
