Here’s why that matters. Most publishers own the rights to the articles in their journals. Anyone who wants to read the articles must pay to access them. DigitalBookIndex: World's Virtual Library (165,000+ FREE eBooks, eTexts, On-Line Books, eDocuments) n Welcome! Over the last decade, a quiet revolution has been going on in the development of a large library of "digital" or "electronic" books. While there are still large gaps, a very substantial body of "Western" thought is available in the form of downloadable or on-line books. Most major writers, from Plato to Hemingway, Fitzgerald, Proust, or John Le Carre, are accessible on the Internet. Subjects range from the highly scholarly to the contemporary and popular -- especially as more commercial publishers discover the virtues of "on-line" distribution.

Global Text Project We maintain the chapters for all Global Text Project books in open document format with extensive use of style sheets so that we can quickly convert them into different media or formats. Global Text Project books have been internationalized and converted to a standard format using OpenOffice. You can access individual chapters in open document format and modify them to meet your needs. We control changes to the master version of each chapter, so please report corrections and suggestion changes to the Associate Editor.

The Lexile® Framework for Reading There is no direct correspondence between a specific Lexile measure and a specific grade level. Within any classroom or grade, there will be a range of readers and a range of reading materials. For example, in a fifth-grade classroom there will be some readers who are ahead of the typical reader (about 250L above) and some readers who are behind the typical reader (about 250L below). To say that some books are "just right" for fifth graders assumes that all fifth graders are reading at the same level. The Lexile® Framework for Reading is intended to match readers with texts at whatever level the reader is reading. MetaMetrics® has studied the ranges of Lexile reader measures and Lexile text measures at specific grades in an effort to describe the typical Lexile measures of texts and the typical Lexile measures of students of a given grade level.

Open Book Project Problem Solving with Algorithms and Data Structures using Python by Brad Miller and David Ranum, Luther College (as remixed by Jeffrey Elkner) CS Principles: Big Ideas in Programming O'Reilly Open Books Project O'Reilly has published a number of Open Books--books with various forms of "open" copyright--over the years. The reasons for "opening" copyright, as well as the specific license agreements under which they are opened, are as varied as our authors. Perhaps a book was outdated enough to be put out of print, yet some people still needed the information it covered. Or the author or subject of a book felt strongly that it should be published under a particular open copyright. Maybe the book was written collectively by a particular community, as in the case of our Community Press books. But there's more to making Open Books available online than simply adopting an open license or giving up rights granted under copyright law.

How to manage your time effectively when dealing with the IELTS Reading section IELTS is a graded test. This is the main reason why the time to complete the reading tasks seems limited, a lot of times, at least to some students who aim to achieve a score between 5 and 6/6.5. Effective time management is of primary importance, therefore, in this particular exam. So, how can we help learners develop the right techniques? Authentic Materials for Teaching Languages: RESOURCES Authentic Materials for Teaching Languages Authentic materials - also known as realia - can be described as anything created for native speakers of a language. The cookies in the photo on the left are a good example of realia - they were made in Germany for German consumption, and they are a great source of authentic reading material (before they get eaten, that is!) for learners of German. Click here for a PowerPoint presentation about the incorporation of authentic cultural materials into the world language classroom. There is a handout also available here that details some of the benefits of using these materials with students.
