LaSaGnA TiMpAnO

LaSaGnA TiMpAnO
I went to see tUnE-yArDs on Monday night with some friends, and as always we wanted to cook a meal that somehow related to the show we were heading to. Sometimes this is hard to do, but other times it seems to come naturally. Finding culinary inspiration in Merrill's lyrics seemed like it would be tough, but my sister knew what she wanted to make without hesitation. "How about something layered, because of all the vocal and instrument layering in the music?" From there we worked together to come up with this deep, colorful, and multi-flavored lasagna version of a timpano. If you are using words like deep, colorful, and multi-flavored to describe something inspired by tUnE-yArDs, you already know you got it right! Start by making a lasagna crust. Finally got it together. Now it's easy, just start building the layers! Alfredo sauce with some salami goes first. After 3 alfredo layers, I switched to pesto. A cheese only layer, just for fun. Tomato sauce is last. All sealed up. After baking.

Spinach Pesto Grilled Cheese Sandwich Earlier on in the week, when I made the spinach, or spanakopita pesto pasta I made sure to keep some of the pesto left over for something new. I had come across the idea of using a pesto in a grilled cheese sandwich and it was the perfect time to try one. I have been experimenting with grilled cheese sandwiches for a while now. It all started when I first tried adding some jam to one then I moved on to chutneys and now it was time to try a pesto grilled cheese sandwich.

Maple & Hazelnut Encrusted Pork Sirloin Tip Roast + A Giveaway Halloween is getting closer, and before I start sharing a few spooky recipes, I wanted to share one last Porktober recipe for the month. This recipe features the delicious sirloin tip roast, a juicy cut of meat from the upper back that is as versatile as it is flavorful. This particular cut does best when cooked slowly, so I roasted it at a lower temperature for a longer period of time. I also salted it and rubbed it down with maple the night before to allow time for the flavor of the two to soak deep into the tissue of the meat. When I was ready to begin cooking, I let the roast rest at room temperature for 40 minutes before placing it in the oven, since a cut of this size will cook more evenly if is has been allowed to come closer to room temperature than if you put it in the oven straightaway from the refrigerator. The result of all these small considerations was one of the juiciest, most flavorful pork roasts I've ever had.
