Steak au Poivre - The Showstopper

Steak au Poivre - The Showstopper
I have a comment on this comment, then I have a comment for the OP. To Amy: Removing to foil is simply a way to keep the steaks warm whilst resting (FOR 5 MINUTES AT LEAST… ALWAYYYS!). When the OP says remove to foil, he/she doesn’t mean to wrap them tightly. They mean to place them in a plate, and form a loose ‘covering’ of foil. This will simply trap some of the heat and allow it to remain warm, without trapping too much moisture. To the OP and to anyone else who decides to try ‘flambe’: It is important to note: When you add cognac or any other high proof liquour to a hot pan, then ignite, you are not burning the alcohol itself, per se. - Never light alcohol while there is an open flame/heat source. - Notice how in the OP, they remove the pan from the stove and then light. - Keep a heavy lidded pan nearby, just in case things Do go awry (if you follow the first 2 tips, they won’t) - Always have at least an ABC rated fire extinguisher within arm’s reach

Oreo and Peanut Butter Brownie Cakes Well these naughty little treats are well….naughty but oh so necessary. There are a bit like my Brownie Covered Oreo’s from last Christmas but enhanced with layers of peanut butter and a double decker stack of Oreos in each little brownie cake. They are simply prepared in cupcake liners. Hope you enjoy this ultra sweet little cake Ok, I have to brag about this brownie mix from Trader Joes for a second. I know not everyone has a Trader Joes near by, however if you do, get a load of their ready to pour baking mix.

How to Cook a Steak Perfectly Every Time I don’t consider myself much of a “steak and potato” guy. If I were in a situation where I was forced at gunpoint to self-identify using only pairings of disparate foods, I would describe myself as more of a “chorizo and cheese” kind of fella. I would also have to reconsider the life choices that led to me having to negotiate my way out of a gunfight using descriptive language about meat. But that’s neither here, nor there. You see, it’s not often that I get the urge to throw a charred piece of meat on a plate, growling and grunting, eating the meat with my bare paws. That craving may not strike often, but when it does, sweet mercy, I want it to be perfect. Cheesy Chicken, Bacon and Avocado Quesadillas What is it about bacon & avocado that I absolutely love?? And these quesadillas… with their buttery, crispy, heavenly tortilla shells… are seriously yum. Don’t let the green scare ya, avocados have a really delicious taste. I promise they’re not just thrown in to “healthify” this recipe! ;) Quesadillas are one of our favorite quick and easy weeknight meals.

Crazy Domestic: Melted Snowman Cookies I saw a picture of these the other day on Allrecipes.com and thought it was such a cute idea, I had to try it. After googleing it, I found a good tutorial on Stacy's Sweet Shop. I modified a few things to make it more simple for me (less homemade more store bought). To see the original Melted Snowman Cookie, and meet the inventor herself, go check out Meaghan (great name) @ The Decorated Cookie!

Better Than Sex? have heard of the cake affectionately known as Better than Sex , but I had never made it. So on the last day of school this year, I made one for a co-worker’s birthday. This was so easy to put together and it’s the perfect cake for potlucks. Sweetened condensed milk, caramel sauce, and hot fudge, all poured over a chocolate cake that has been poked with holes. Frosted with Cool Whip, the whipped topping helps to cut the richness of this cake. 10 steak sauces you can make in minutes If our site’s statistics show one thing, it’s that you love steak and want to know how to cook it perfectly. Artichoke bottoms with pasta and shrimp This dish (concocted at the spur of the moment) reminded me of a conversation I had with a foodie friend in Beirut; we were discussing artichokes and that exquisite Lebanese dish of stuffed artichoke bottoms with minced lamb and yogurt; I mentioned I used frozen bottoms imported from Egypt. His reaction was: “What? You are supposed to get fresh artichokes and (slave over) peel them and clean them up and then get their bottoms” is what he said. Yeah, right! I will do that when I have a kitchen helper 24/7. It might be because of my mood, or that nothing sounds good, or that I’m in a food rut again and need to spice things up a bit.

10 Easy Kitchen Extracts to Make at Home There is no need to buy vanilla extract, or most baking extracts for that matter, because a lot of them can be made at home. It may sound complicated and unnecessary to do this, but I can assure you it is much easier than you think. Most of the time making extracts entails steeping the flavoring ingredients in a liquor or sugar. Watermelon Lime Sorbet Slices A sweet and tangy watermelon lime sorbet is a great way to cool off in the summer. As a bonus, this recipe is frozen back in the watermelon rind and cut off into slices. It’s hot. The type of heat where when you step outside the door and your skin is wet before the door swings shut behind you. It’s a hot that hangs in the air, letting you breathe it in, that is cured only by two things: being completely immersed in water or hiding indoors, the air conditioning cranked as far as it will go.I find that the heat makes me very unmotivated to do things like take a walk, water and weed the garden (though I have forced that one on myself) and prepare food and eat it.

Sweet Potato Gnocchi with Gouda Cheese Sauce This morning I was looking at my home page and I realized that there is a lot of orange sweet potato and pumpkin going on. Considering the time of year I think it is very fitting. Maybe I should go red and green when Christmas comes around? Got any green and red recipes that I can try out for Christmas? In keeping with the autumn orange theme I got the idea to try a sweet potato gnocchi covered in gouda cheese sauce.
