BEST OF MILAN DESIGN WEEK 2016 This in fact leads us to making mention of the pastel toned colour way which kept appearing all about town: all the way from HAY’s multicoloured presentation inside La Pelota - which inspired thoughts of 1950’s-era candy shops - to Patricia Urquiola’s console and mirror from the SHIMMER series she created for Glas Italia. Unsurprisingly, Patricia was a very busy designer this season - to prove our point we must note the incredible CREDENZA collection that she collaborated on with Federico Pepe on for Spazio Pontaccio which was inspired by the stained glass windows of holy sites. Marble seemed to be another trend at this Salone, especially black Marquina marble which appeared in everything from Apparatus Studio’s Portal marble dining table, to the small, Niobe side tables designed by Federica Capitani for Zanotta, not to mention the Mr.

Interior Design Trends 2013 & 2014 Trend Tablet curated and inspired by the forward thinking and creative touch of Lidewij (Lee) Edelkoort Design Days Dubai 2012 brilliantly brought the world’s most renowned trend forecaster Lidewij Edelkoort to the UAE for an enlightening talk about the trends in fashion, interiors, graphics, cosmetics, automobiles etc. for 2013 and 2014. Lidewij is a fantastic resource for designers in creating products and interiors that have longevity past the current year as she forecasts ahead by at least 2 years. An inspirational design leader shared some of Lidewij’s main points as they relate to the future trends in Interior Design with me. I thought it best to share a few of them with you as I have begun to see many of these trends emerging, most noteably with the recently held ISaloni furniture, kitchen and bath show in Milan and Maison & Objet in Paris.

What Was the Hipster? If I speak of the degeneration of our most visible recent subculture, the hipster, it’s an awkward occasion. Someone will point out that hipsters are not dead, they still breathe, they live on my block. Yet it is evident that we have reached the end of an epoch in the life of the type. Its evolution lasted from 1999 to 2009, though it has shifted appearance dramatically over the decade. It survived this year; it may persist. Indications are everywhere, however, that we have come to a moment of stocktaking. I asked her about the art of trend forecasting, and what's next for 2013/14. Tell us a little bit about yourself…I've been a fashion designer for 13 years and have always had a strong eye for trends so I naturally evolved into trend forecasting when I moved to London after living in Los Angeles and New York. I was born, raised and studied fashion in Paris but my mother's a New Yorker and my father is British. Secrets of Social Media Revealed 50 Years Ago - David Aaker - The Conversation by David Aaker | 8:00 AM June 17, 2011 Almost 50 years ago Ernest Dichter, the father of motivation research, did a large study of word of mouth persuasion that revealed secrets of how to use social media to build brands and businesses. The study was reported in a 1966 article in HBR. A major Dichter finding, very relevant today, was the identification of four motivations for a person to communicate about brands. The first (about 33% of the cases) is because of product-involvement. The experience is so novel and pleasurable that it must be shared.
