Unbelievable Photos Show Factory Farms Destroying The American Countryside

When it comes to producing meat, whether chicken, beef, or pork, that race has fallen at the feet of the so-called factory farm and its hallmark feature — the feedlot. Feedlots, officially called Concentrated Animal Feeding Operation (CAFO), house thousands of animals in tiny, confined spaces before they're slaughtered. Critics call the practice inhumane and say it breeds environmental problems and disease. "A feedlot is very much a pre-modern city … teeming and filthy and stinking, with open sewers, unpaved roads, and choking air rendered visible by dust," Michael Pollan writes in his book "The Omnivore’s Dilemma.

" There are currently about 15,500 CAFOs in the U.S. For the last several years, British artist Mishka Henner has collected images of the feedlots via satellite, to document a largely hidden phenomenon. I don’t want to believe that. I think we all have a choice. You have bacteria in your gut that helps you digest food and live. Fukushima: The Extinction-Level Event That No One Is Talking About [Video] - ORGANIC AND HEALTHY. One repercussion of this has been the pollution of radioactive waste into the sea.

Fukushima: The Extinction-Level Event That No One Is Talking About [Video] - ORGANIC AND HEALTHY

It is thought that hundreds of tons of radioactive waste has been pumped inot the sea every day ever since. The nuclear waste has penetrated the Japanese food chain and has been detected in food over 200 miles away. Study Finds that Ocean Could Suffocate by 2030. Imagine if we were running out of oxygen on land.

Study Finds that Ocean Could Suffocate by 2030

According to a study, that’s happening in the ocean. Image: Shutterstock. It seems that every week, a new study comes out showing just how much damage we’re doing to our planet. This last one’s a doozy, though: according to Matthew Long, an oceanographer at the National Center for Atmospheric Research, if we continue along the road we’re on, the ocean could begin to suffocate in about 15 years. Actually. According to Ocean Scientists for Informed Policy, “ocean deoxygenation refers to the loss of oxygen from the oceans due to climate change.” The Great Barrier Reef: a catastrophe laid bare. Fukushima Radiation Has Contaminated The Entire Pacific Ocean - And It's Going to Get Worse. The nuclear disaster has contaminated the world's largest ocean in only five years and it's still leaking 300 tons of radiation every day.

In 2011, an earthquake, believed to be an aftershock of the 2010 earthquake in Chile, created a tsunami that caused a meltdown at the TEPCO nuclear power plant in Fukushima, Japan. Earth Just Experienced The Hottest June Ever Recorded. Officials: Fukushima Has Now Contaminated 1/3 Of The Worlds Oceans – Awareness Act. Most people do not realize the repercussions that disasters like the Fukushima nuclear meltdown have on the world.

When it happens the media is all over it, and then soon they trickle off and nobody ever thinks about it again. But the fact is, even though nobody is talking about it, it does not mean that the trouble is gone. Quite the contrary actually, the Fukushima disaster is still affecting the world today. Almost one-third of the globe is thought to have been contaminated from the leak out from the Fukushima Nuclear Disaster. More than 80% of the radioactivity from the damaged reactors ended up in the Pacific Ocean, far more than reached the ocean from Chernobyl or Three Mile Island.

The Killer Seas Begin — Mass Marine Death off Chile as Ocean Acidification Begins to Take Down Florida’s Reef. Stanford Biologist Warns: Early Signs of Earth’s 6th Mass Extinction in Progress. Those who keep taking our biodiversity for granted: dumping corporate waste, spraying copious amounts of herbicides and pesticides, contaminating our water with fluoride, arsenic, and other industrial chemicals while generally ignoring the environment at large, have another thing coming.

Stanford Biologist Warns: Early Signs of Earth’s 6th Mass Extinction in Progress

According to a Stanford biology professor, Rodolfo Dirzo, the earth has begun its 6th mass extinction cycle – and it’s our fault. More than 3.5 billion years of biodiversity hang in the balance. According to lead author Dirzo, we have reached a tipping point. In a recently published review of scientific literature and an analysis of data published in Science, an international team of scientists cautions that the loss and decline of animals is contributing to what appears to be the beginning of the planet’s sixth mass biological extinction event. While 320 terrestrial animals have died off since 1500, populations of the remaining animal species show a recurring decline of 25 percent. Top Climate Scientist Warns Against Injecting Stratospheric Particles Into The Atmosphere

Matthew Watson, a PhD and researcher in the department of Earth Sciences at the University of Bristol has recently expressed his concerns regarding spraying various chemicals into the atmosphere in order to combat the effects of global warming. Dr. Just what is going on in this climate of ours? Trying to understand what’s actually going on in the world’s climate seems like it might be truly impossible.

Just what is going on in this climate of ours?

For one thing, there are so many different factors at work. Everything from how light travels through the atmosphere to how the winds move the ocean around to how rain hits the ground has an effect on what actually happens on Earth both now and in the future. Monsanto's Roundup Causing Evolution of "Super-Weeds" That Grow 3 Inches a Day

Sure, we've already thanked Monsanto for helping a tenacious, fast-growing, brand new kind of plant evolve. But the latest revelations from a study published in Weed Science reveal the details how dousing weeds with Roundup have caused the evolution of a "super-weed" that can grow up to 3 inches a day -- and the impact new, herbicide-resistant weeds might have on global food production.Fast Company has more: A new series of studies released by Weed Science this month finds at least 21 weed species have become resistant to the popular herbicide glyphosate (sold as Monsanto's Roundup), and a growing number survive multiple herbicides, so-called "super-weeds. " The same selection pressure creating bacteria resistant to multiple antibiotics is leading to the rapid evolution of plants that survive modern herbicides. Scientists Warn We Are Approaching The Next Mass Extinction. The decline of various animal populations and species loss are occurring at alarming rates on Earth, contributing to the world’s sixth mass extinction.

While these deadly events may ultimately pave way for the emergence of new species, Stanford scientists have warned that if this “defaunation” that we are currently experiencing continues, it will likely have serious downstream impacts on human health. The study has been published in Science. Biodiversity on Earth is extremely rich at present; it’s estimated to be the highest in the history of life on our planet. Facebook. Science or Art? A new study partly-sponsored by Nasa's Goddard Space Flight Center has highlighted the prospect that global industrial civilisation could collapse in coming decades due to unsustainable resource exploitation and increasingly unequal wealth distribution. Noting that warnings of 'collapse' are often seen to be fringe or controversial, the study attempts to make sense of compelling historical data showing that "the process of rise-and-collapse is actually a recurrent cycle found throughout history. " Cases of severe civilisational disruption due to "precipitous collapse - often lasting centuries - have been quite common. " The independent research project is based on a new cross-disciplinary 'Human And Nature DYnamical' (HANDY) model, led by applied mathematician Safa Motesharrei of the US National Science Foundation-supported National Socio-Environmental Synthesis Center, in association with a team of natural and social scientists.
