The Daily Advance

If parents want to yank their children out of public schools and enroll them in a private or for-profit school, let them. But North Carolina lawmakers shouldn’t steal from public education to pay for it. Across the country, Republican-controlled legislatures are pushing for private school vouchers paid for with public tax dollars to cover the cost of tuition. Florida and other states this year diverted some $343 million from public education to pay for private school tuition for nearly 129,000 students. Louisiana recently shifted tens of millions in tax dollars out of its public schools to pay private industry, business owners and church pastors to educate children. Republicans in North Carolina are also using their majority to try and push through similar private school expansion plans. http://www.dailyadvance.com/opinion/our-views/education-gop-robbing-peter-enrich-paul-1092827#comment-170969
Swedish test-scores are deteriorating, both among native Swedes and immigrants. The left is blaming this on Sweden's popular system of vouchers. The Swedish private schools ("friskolor") are funded by public vouchers but privately owned and managed, which the left dislikes. http://super-economy.blogspot.com/2011/03/on-swedish-voucher-system.html

School of One – Concept | Reimagining the classroom to meet the needs of every student

The iZone's School of One was created to generate bold, effective and transformative changes in the classroom to better meet the needs of today's students. Our first major engagement is a full-time math program in several New York City public middle schools. Read below to learn why — and how — School of One reimagines teaching and learning. Every student has different needs
It is the first week of a new chapter for us here at the NYC Department of Education’s main office in Tweed Courthouse. Our co-founder and former CEO, Joel Rose, is no longer around. Since Joel formally announced his resignation on March 21, School of One has popped up quite a bit in the news.

Awesome short video on the Feynman Technique — an incredibly simple and effective way to learn new things and identify holes in your knowledge. In How To Read A Book , Mortimer Adler writes: The person who says he knows what he thinks but cannot express it usually does not know what he thinks.
