The study concluded that the statements "were part of an orchestrated campaign that effectively galvanized public opinion and, in the process, led the nation to war under decidedly false pretenses. " The study was posted Tuesday on the Web site of the Center for Public Integrity, which worked with the Fund for Independence in Journalism. White House: Iraq has mass-destruction weapons - Dec. 5, 2002. Thursday, December 5, 2002 Posted: 6:24 PM EST (2324 GMT) WASHINGTON (CNN) -- The United States has solid intelligence that Iraq has kept weapons of mass destruction in violation of U.N. mandates, White House spokesman Ari Fleischer said Thursday.

White House: Iraq has mass-destruction weapons - Dec. 5, 2002

Officials have good reason for charging that Iraq has the weapons, Fleischer said. "The president of the United States and the secretary of defense would not assert as plainly and vocally as they have that Iraq has weapons of mass destruction if it was not true and if they did not have a solid basis for saying it," Fleischer said. Fleischer spoke following a meeting of top advisers to President Bush, who discussed Iraq and the nation's pending Sunday deadline to publicly declare any weapons of mass destruction it may have. Iraqi officials, including President Saddam Hussein, have denied U.S. accusations they have any such weapons. "The question is whether or not he chooses to disarm," Bush said. "We will be deliberative," Fleischer said. 9/11: What Didn't Change. Edward A.

9/11: What Didn't Change

Ornelas/San Antonio Express-News/ZUMA Press It changed everything. That's the mantra that emerged from the horrific attacks of September 11, 2001. In certain areas of our collective lives, it was an accurate description. Security concerns increased. Also see our table of laws that have changed in reaction to 9/11. But as the dust was settling, commentators and pundits also applied the changed-everything observation to other aspects of our society. For a time, some of that happened—on both mundane and more notable levels.

But life often reverts to form, and change is fleeting and not necessarily a guarantee of progress. Just Asking - David Foster Wallace. Are some things still worth dying for?

Just Asking - David Foster Wallace

Is the American idea* one such thing? Are you up for a thought experiment? What if we chose to regard the 2,973 innocents killed in the atrocities of 9/11 not as victims but as democratic martyrs, “sacrifices on the altar of freedom”? * In other words, what if we decided that a certain baseline vulnerability to terrorism is part of the price of the American idea? And, thus, that ours is a generation of Americans called to make great sacrifices in order to preserve our democratic way of life—sacrifices not just of our soldiers and money but of our personal safety and comfort? Growing Number of Americans Say Obama is a Muslim

More than a year and a half into his presidency, a plurality of the public says they do not know what religion Obama follows.
