LED3X Solar Tracker Assembly

The Earth revolves about an axis called the "Polar Axis" which in the northern hemisphere is aligned closely to the "North Star". The sun also appears to rotate about this axis. The best solar tracking mounts have the main axis aligned with the polar axis and rotates in Right Ascension, sort of East and West.

If dual axis, the secondary axis is oriented 90° to the polar axis and rotates in DEClination, sort of North and South. To set the Polar Axis, angle the North end up from the North horizon by your local LATitude. pseudoDefinitions of "True Polar Axis" vs. There is quite a bit of confusion about "True" vs "Pseudo" polar axis mounts and how they operate. Polar Mounts on WikipediaSatellite Dishes on Wikipedia The difference between solar and satellite use is the solar application will have no offset angle. True DEClination is the seasonal adjustment, a tilt "ON" the main or polar axis.

Lots of people have what I call "Pseudo Polar Axis" mounts. 1. 2. Dan Lenox's Solar Build - Solar Tracker. Solar Tracker This page logs my design/thoughts/progress of building the solar mounting and tracking device.

Design and initial construction. Here are a number of pictures of how others have mounted their solar arrays, not all of them are pole mounted. A lot of these images were accumulated from the Redrok Energy website, I should have kept better track so that the proper credits could have been given, but the persons last names are part of some of the image names. DIY Wind Turbine Components

I am often asked what parts are required to make a DIY Wind Turbine. This has led me to create this page so you can purchase the parts you require to make a DIY Wind Turbine suitable for charging 12V batteries. Any questions, please do use the commenting form at the bottom of the page so others can learn from your questions. Basic Components Required For A DIY Wind Turbine Please look at the schematic below to see how each component is connected.

Component Explanations 30V - 90V DC Permanent Magnet Motor The PMDC (Permanent Magnet Direct Current) Motor is the powerhouse of a DIY wind turbine, when you rotate the motor it produces DC power. 18V - 40V 40A Blocking Diode The purpose of a blocking diode when used in conjunction with a wind turbine is to allow the motor to charge the batteries when the wind blows but more importantly it prevents the batteries spinning the motor when the wind is not blowing. 12V Charge Controller.
