Things I want to make (when I finally get the time_ / Add feet and wallpaper to a cheap bookcase. I have a bookcase that needs this. Urban Nest » Blog Archive » Faux Furniture. These days I have a long furniture wish list for our house. When we moved to Richmond from our tiny house in Old Town Alexandria, we hardly had any furniture worth moving, and several pieces actually ended up at the dump. It’s been a slow process furnishing the rooms in our home, and when it came to Violet’s and Nathan’s rooms, I needed to get creative. I decided to use a trick that I saw Sarah Richardson use to create “faux” beds and attached furniture feet to the box springs. Both of the box springs look like pieces of furniture and only cost around $50 for the fabric and feet. Mod Podge Photos {On Canvas} This is what your finished product can look like!

Song Lyric Wall Art / D.I.Y. Project

I can't pass these things up even though I already owned this particular design. I thought that I could maybe use it to make a fun D.I.Y., but my new rule is that all thrifts that I purchase with the intent of restyling need to get done right away. I have way too many half finished projects in my life. With that little bit of motivation I came up with a fun D.I.Y. to display some of my favorite song lyrcis in our newlywed home.

Enjoy.... Melted Crayon Art. Perhaps I should begin this post by introducing you to my mom, also known as Her Ladyship Craftiness…er, Her Royal Craftiness?

Melted Crayon Art

I’m still working on the title. Regardless, she’s the coolest, most creative and talented woman I know. She can make pretty much anything. At least once during high school, I borrowed a friend’s purse, brought it home to Mom, and she whipped one up just like it for me. Yes, I probably abused the power of being Her Ladyship’s daughter, and I no longer steal my friends’ purses, but the point is: my mom is awesome. If you follow Young House Love, Bower Power, Making a House a Home, or Style by Emily Henderson you know how timely her visit was, as today is the big reveal for the Pinterest Challenge. The supplies were pretty simple: canvas, crayons, and hot glue. The next step was to peel off the paper labels from all 60 crayons. It worked like a charm. What do you think of our masterpiece? Total money spent: $9.60 Total time spent: about 1½ hours. Wallflowers.

I never seem to grow tired of flowers.

And this version reminds me of being a kid, with a grown-up twist. Did you ever make those tissue paper flowers in grade school? You know, where you fold them up like a fan and then pull the petals back? Yep, that’s what we’re doing here! But by using paper napkins, instead of tissue paper, the flowers have a more structured hold. And the white ones look like real magnolias to me.

These are very easy to make and add a lovely touch to any sort of Celebration or even your day-to-day decor. Icicle Ornaments From Plastic Bottles. Recycle PET bottles into christmas ornaments Materials needed: -plastic bottle -candle -scissors -knife -nail or needle -wire or thread (I used invisible thread) (I made 36 icicles out of 2 bottles, and I'm not counting those first few that I threw away because they were warped or burned) This is so easy, I can't believe there is no instruction on it yet :) I had this idea last year, when I saw those expensive glass icicles in stores, and wondered if they make plastic ones too (so they'd be catproof =^.^=).

End of the story is, I looked on ebay, found they were either ugly (opaque white plastic with gold glitter, anyone? How to Make Chalkboard Paint. Oh, chalkboard paint!

How to Make Chalkboard Paint

I love you so. A little bit of chalkboard paint can really take a craft project to the next level, turning your creation into something versatile and begging to be drawn on over and over again. The trouble with chalkboard paint is that you really don’t have many options when it comes to the stuff. Black chalkboard paint is pretty easy to find at the home improvement store, and some shops stock that chalkboard green color, but that’s it color-wise.

You’re also limited in terms of environmentally friendly options. When you whip up your own batch, you have total control over what sort of paint you’re using and you can make it in snazzy colors.
