En français: The creative, courageous and inspiring Quebec student movement will today weave its way through Montreal's Earth Day rally, mixing red and green, merging demands for a freeze on tuition with respect for the earth and those most impacted by climate change.

Our Generation's Quiet Awakening must be Green and Red

Let the meeting not remain accidental, but deepen and flourish. Our country has always been divided by solitudes of nation, religion, and language, but no two solitudes are as important to overcome today as this: the fight against an unjust economy and the fight against climate change. It has never been more urgent to make the connection. The old mentality may have told us to fight our battles separately: Let environmentalists deal with the environment; let workers and students deal with the economy. This must be our generation's quiet awakening. Deer beats the S**T out of a hunter!!! Haha - Deer 1 / Hunter 0.

Monkeys Devise a Tool to Break Out of Zoo in Brazil

In the early hours of the morning yesterday, a group of eight capuchin monkeys made a remarkably clever escape from a zoo in Brazil. Much to the surprise of staffers at the small facility, the daring monkeys appear to have used a stone tool to break the locks of their enclosure before fleeing into the surrounding forest. Of the eight monkey to escape the facility in the Brazilian state of Paraná, officials have only managed to capture four so far. Zoo coordinator Gladis Dalamina told Globo that fruit-lined cage traps were successful in capturing three of the monkeys in the hours after the break out. "It was a surprise because this isn't the jungle here, and to have [a monkey] enter my establishment," said the restaurant owner.

Another campaigner, local mother Natasha Mills, also locked herself to the drill rig at ground level, surrounded by a support crew of 15 other Quit Coal activists who occupied the drill site to stage a ‘picnic’, which featured produce from local farms. ‘We are eating locally grown food to illustrate what is at stake here’ said Mills, who is currently 7 and a half months pregnant with her second child. ‘This project will destroy prime agricultural land, all for the sake of a quick buck and the burning of brown coal, one of the most environmentally harmful practices possible. Quit Coal will see about that. Quebecers hear the call and rise up for the environment. I first heard about Deep Green Resistance in the middle of a grassroots fight to stop a huge vacation-home subdivision at a Vancouver Island wilderness park. Deep Green Resistance (DGR) made me a better strategist. “This book is about fighting back. Keith, author of The Vegetarian Myth, opens the discussion with an analysis of why “traditional” environmental action is self-defeating. The DGR philosophy was born from failure. “This suggests our work is a failure,” Jensen concludes. If we keep to this course, as Keith points out, the outcome is extinction: the death of species, of people, and the planet itself.

“Don’t be afraid to be radical,” Keith advises in a recent interview.
