How I built an electricity producing wind turbine

How I built an electricity producing wind turbine
Several years ago I bought some remote property in Arizona. I am an astronomer and wanted a place to practice my hobby far away from the sky-wrecking light pollution found near cities of any real size. I found a great piece of property. The problem is, it's so remote that there is no electric service available. That's not really a problem. No electricity equals no light pollution. One thing I noticed right away about my property is that most of the time, the wind is blowing. Let me state up front that I probably won't be able to help you out much if you decide to build your own wind turbine. Since no one seems to be reading the FAQ, I will answer the No. 1 question I get many, many times a day right here up front. Update: Here is a video of the wind turbine in operation. Update: Here is a video of me assembling and setting up the wind turbine on my remote off-grid property. I started the process of designing my wind turbine by Googling for information on home-built wind turbines. .

DIY Solar Still How To Make Your Own Distilled Water Make your own distilled water from stream or lake water, salt water, or even brackish, dirty water, using these DIY Solar Still Plans. With just a few basic building materials, a sheet of glass and some sunshine, you can purify your own water at no cost and with minimal effort. Distilled water is not just for drinking, and it’s always worth keeping a few gallons of it on hand. How To Build A 'Wasp' Wind Turbine Materialsthin, bendable sheet of plastic or any other material that can be used to build a cone two boards of MDF or any other sturdy material glue, tape For the nozzle we chose an arc with a radius of 61cm made of a thin and bendable sheet of plastic. The angle depends on the size of the stand for the nozzle but it is helpful to have sufficient material overlapping as this makes the procedure of taping/gluing the cone much easier.

Axial Flux Lesson #1 - Mike's Windmill Shop Winding a three phase axial flux stator the Mike’s Windmill Shop way. The first step in building your powerful axial flux wind generator will be to wind a stator. Here we teach you how to wind with three phase windings. We use a wooden disk behind the windings. World Wind Energy Association - Home WWEC2014 Conference Resolution 13th World Wind Energy Conference Distributed Wind Power Shanghai, China, 7-9 April 2014 The World Wind Energy Association, the Chinese Wind Energy Association, Chinese Wind Energy Equipment Association and the China National Renewable Energy Centre welcome the presence of those 500 participants from 40 countries attending this Conference, from wind and all other renewable energy technologies. The Conference covered all aspects of wind utilisation, related policies, manufacturing, development, operation as well as economic and social issues, with a special focus on the role that distributed wind power can play to accelerate the deployment of wind power in the world.

Wind Power Generators -- Windmills Annual Output (KWH/year) = 0.01328 (D^2) (V^3) source... Where D^2 is the blade diameter in feet squared, and V^3 is the wind velocity cubed in mph -- this is the year round average wind speed -- see wind maps below. So, a 10 ft diameter wind turbine in 12 mph average winds might produce about (0.01328)(10^2)(12^3) = 2300 KWH/year Note that the energy produced is proportional to the cube of wind speed -- having enough average wind speed is everything in wind turbines. Use the wind maps discussed below and a wind survey of your site to determine if a wind turbine will actually payoff.

Build a 15,000 rpm Tesla Turbine using hard drive platters Here's a project that uses some of those dead hard drives you've got lying around. In the Tesla Turbine, air, steam, oil, or any other fluid is injected at the edge of a series of smooth parallel disks. The fluid spirals inwards and is exhausted through ventilation ports near the center of the disks. Wind Turbine Output Boosted 30% By Breakthrough Design Clean Power Published on April 29th, 2009 | by Timothy B. Hurst VAWT Yet another VAWT..... The "Lenz Turbine" I've always had sort of a soft spot for the Vertical Axis Wind Turbines because of the advantages they offer. Unfortunately, most of them such as the Savonius aren't very efficient but do offer low wind characteristics. About a year ago I was emailed a patent of a VAWT that was a bit different. This one used the "Venturi effect" to duct air around the wings.
