Cheese Pinwheel Rolls

Cheese Pinwheel Rolls
Sooner or later, all my conversations inevitably turn to food. Don’t believe me? Call me up sometime and try to, say, sell me some insurance. I guarantee that before we get off the phone, I’ll be giving you my recipe for blackberry jam. I can’t help it. It’s just how I work. Perfect example: I was in a meeting a few weeks ago at the office. What was the best way to make them? Ah, the Frankenroll This recipe borrows heavily from two fairly unrelated things. To make these rolls, spread pizza dough liberally with melted butter, sprinkle it with cheese and spices, roll it up like a stromboli—then slice and bake like a pan of cinnamon buns. The result? Fill them however you like The best part about these rolls? This is what I always refer to as a Sliding-Scale Recipe. You can toss it together with a ball of pre-made dough and a bag of shredded cheese from the grocery store—or you can go all out and make the dough from scratch and grate your favorite cheeses by hand. Homemade Stuffed Pizza Crust Recipe I think there are very few who can vouch and say that they DON'T like Pizza! Its not the healthiest thing to be munching around all the time, but then on occasion when you enjoy it, nothing competes the heartiness and deliciousness of a yummy pizza! I have had my share of pizzas and am at a stage when I can look at a Pizza and not go Ga-ga over it. There is no more salivating or uncontrollable drooling over a dominoes pizza crust. But sometimes on those rare occasions that it does - I need to devour a pizza right then and there. I cannot wait for those 45-60 minutes for the pizza man to arrive! Ancient Pagan History of the Goddess Worshipers Well, no one knows what actually happened in the beginning or what our ancient ancestors believed, exactly. All we can honestly do is reconstruct a lineage using similarities in art, what writing remains, and archeological artifacts. What we can surmise is that at some point we, as humans, stopped being total savages and started paying attention to our divine inner Being. This is the point where the law of the jungle is transcended by rudimentary justice--that which seeks to keep the strong from getting over on the weak every time, though we still have a long way to go on that score. A very interesting book on that subject is The Origin of Consciousness in the Breakdown of the Bicameral Mind

White Chicken Pizza January 19, 2011 White Chicken Pizza In this house I know that anytime I make a pizza, it’s guaranteed that it will get eaten. Even if I screw it up, the mantra seems to be that there is no such thing as a bad pie. Only the “this is pretty darn good pizza, pass another slice please” pizza, the “thank you soooo much for making pizza mommy” pizza (trust me, dinner compliments from the six and under crowd are a rare treat so this is the sign of a job well done), and the “Get your hand off that last slice, I called dibs and I’ll fight ya for it if I have to” kickin’ awesome pizza. This pizza is of the third distinction. Tasty Kitchen Blog - StumbleUpon I first discovered panko bread crumbs back in 1999. Please don’t ask me how I know that; I just do. I remember vividly reading a recipe that contained panko bread crumbs, and I remember vividly that I was nursing my second baby, and I remember vividly that I was hormonal and desperate, and the next thing I knew I was ordering panko bread crumbs from some market in Chelsea that the magazine recommended. On the phone, of course, because although I had a computer at the time, I certainly wouldn’t have been cool enough to use it to order panko bread crumbs. Plus, I was nursing. Not enough hands.

Honey Mustard Chicken with Bacon and Mushrooms “This is probably my favorite way to eat chicken.” That’s a quote from my husband the last time I made Honey Mustard Chicken with Bacon and Mushrooms for dinner. Marinate some chicken breasts in honey, mustard, and lemon, then top with bacon, mushrooms and cheese… How could that go wrong? I love to serve this dish with a side of oven fries and a crisp lettuce salad.

Caramel Brownie Cheesecake This is a monkeyhead concoction so please don’t be disappointed with me that it’s not 100% homemade. Sometimes as a mom you have to go with your childrens ideas in order to lift their creative wings. Monkey One loves cheesecake and caramel, Monkey Two has a passion for brownies you put the two of these knuckleheads together and look at what they come up with… Caramel Brownie Cheesecake. You gotta love the way these boys think. To see their vision come to fruition we used one of our favorite brownie mixes, a no bake white chocolate cheesecake recipe from Williams-Sonoma and we tried Jamie’s homemade caramel recipe from My Baking Addiction.

frites & fries - Garlic Knots Most of my early food memories had to do with all the garlic dishes that my grandmother made. Preschool-me was so fascinated by the fact that Grandma smelled like garlic 24/7 and I was always so amazed that something so small could create so much flavor. My grandmother’s native Shangdong province uses a lot of garlic in their cooking so it wasn’t surprising to see my mom or my grandmother use up an entire bulb of garlic for a small dinner.
