Grasshopper Space Frame In this tutorial we will look at how to generate a spaceframe. Although the beginning is quite straight forward , the difficulty arises when the top frame has to be defined. It tackles a typical problem with Grasshopper , the list and tree editing. Due to the fact that Grasshopper doesn't store object names but defines the geometry in an indexed list makes the selection of objects sometimes quite arduous. The Design Space frame RHINO: GRASSHOPPER DEFINITIONS - RHINO / GH This definition was developed for my final thesis project to generate a louver system based on functional requirements within the building. The performance was then tested in Ecotect. A large part of my thesis design involved invertible arena seating with many moving parts. I used Grasshopper as a means to develop the seating testing clearances, site lines, and many other variables. This definition looks at taking any curved surface, and generating weaving geometry across it. The parametric skyscraper uses Grasshopper to generate the entire structure.

Digging on Shigeru I’m fascinated by Shigeru Ban’s Nine Bridge Club house. The projection of the a rectangular grid down into these funnel shapes is such a simple idea on a large scale and totally mind bending in the details. For my sketch, I made a quarter of one funnel with a revolve, cut it down to a square edge, divided the surface, then turned off the U and V grids, and used intersects projected from Level 1. The panel is just a half step pattern with this geometry. Plenty of flaws in the lattice (intersect based gridlines can get a little funky at the edges, particularly in tangency conditions) but it’s getting there. Grasshopper Modules - Proxy Wiki From Phylogenesis, FOA 2003 The following Grasshopper modules were created in consultation with FOA's Phylogenesis, in particular the taxonomy of forms found at the conclusion of the book. Grasshopper is an exciting and evolving modeling platform - the following examples attempt to develop a range of geometric examples to explore its form-making potentials. Andrew Payne, a GSAPP alum, has created a comprehensive primer on Grasshopper that can be found here. You should have this handy for reference.

Fabrication » Parametric Modeling Grasshopper: Parametric TrussThis module covers the basic parametric properties of curves and most common methods for evaluating and dividing curves, while applying these concepts to build a parametric truss. Grasshopper : Lists + Data MatchingThis module covers some of the basics about the Grasshopper interface, basic understanding of the logic of parametric design (inputs, outputs, and relation-based information flow), information management using data lists and looping, and applying these concepts by creating a responsive surface using an attractor point. Jewelry webinar About six months ago, Australian jeweler Chris Botha started playing with T-Splines for Rhino and posting his results in the T-Splines forum. His gallery thread has turned into the most prolific on our forum, with 161 posts and over 12000 views, and is filled with dozens of jewelry pieces that are distinctively organic. On Friday, October 28, 2011 5:00 PM – 6:00 PM EDT, Chris will present at a free T-Splines webinar, “How T-Splines changed my approach to making jewelry in CAD.” Tutorials Introduction to Grasshopper Videos by David Rutten. Wondering how to get started with Grasshopper? Look no further. Spend an some time with the creator of Grasshopper, David Rutten, to learn the fundamental of Grasshopper.
