Common Core Watch Since we at Fordham began reviewing state academic standards in 1997, we have understood—and made clear—that standards alone are insufficient to drive improvements in student achievement. Standards describe the destination, but they don’t chart the journey for leaders, teachers, or schools, which means that for standards to have any impact on what students actually learn, they must influence curriculum decisions, assessments, and accountability. Educators intuitively understand this, but not all policy makers and pundits appear to. The need for standards-aligned curricula is undoubtedly the most cited challenge for states, districts, and schools implementing the Common Core.

By Peter Greene June 3, 2015 at 11:49 AM It's time for the beginning of summer break. That means a time of opportunity for teachers, ranging from the personal to the professional. Technology Generating Work Flow in 1:1 iPad Classroom <img src=" class="headimg wp-post-image" alt="bmcldrev" title="" /> I’m finishing this first full quarter with the 1:1 iPad classroom but apps do not hold attention spans this time of year. Thus the last quarter begins with incentives and compromises to motivate students.

Center for Nanotechnology in Society at Arizona State University (CNS-ASU) The Virtual Institute for Responsible Innovation (VIRI) was created to accelerate the formation of a community of scholars and practitioners who, despite divides in geography and political culture, will create a common concept of responsible innovation for research, training and outreach – and in doing so contribute to the governance of emerging technologies under conditions dominated by high uncertainty, high stakes, and challenging questions of novelty. “Responsible innovation” (RI) is an emerging term in science and innovation policy fields across the globe. Its precise definition has been at the center of numerous meetings, research council decisions, and other activities in recent years. But today there is neither a clear, unified vision of what responsible innovation is, what it requires in order to be effective, nor what it can accomplish.
