Shaggy Dog Stories and other mp3 recordings for English learners | Antimoon.com © Tomasz P. Szynalski, Antimoon.com Here are 10 short “Shaggy Dog Stories” in mp3 format that you can download free of charge. You can also download a story called “Going to California”. The story of the stories We got the stories from our English teacher in high school around January 1994. We listened to the tape almost every day, trying to imitate the American accent — with success. In 2001, Tom decided to make an Audio CD with the stories. Later, Tom found the owner of the recordings on the Internet (the English Teaching Forum) and contacted the magazine. How you can use the stories We think the stories can be very useful for learners of American English. Listen to the stories frequently. The stories are rather silly, but we still think they’re funny. Copyright The recordings are the property of the English Teaching Forum magazine — a publication of the United States Department of State. | EuroPhonica I want to Brexit?

Real World ESL: August 2010 - audio biographies FAITH LAPIDUS: This is SCIENCE IN THE NEWS in VOA Special English. I'm Faith Lapidus. BOB DOUGHTY: And I'm Bob Doughty. This week, we will tell how sharks use their wonderful sense of smell to find food. We also will tell about what some researchers are calling the world's oldest leather shoe. FAITH LAPIDUS: Few creatures on earth are as good as sharks at finding their dinners. Recently published research questions a common belief about sharks. Some people think that sharks simply follow the strongest smells that reach them to find their prey, or target. Researchers Jayne Gardiner and Jelle Atema reported their findings in the publication Current Biology. BOB DOUGHTY: The researchers studied small sharks called smooth dogfish, common to America’s New England coast. The scientists placed special equipment on the sharks to direct odors directly to their nostrils. Then the scientists watched and recorded which way the sharks turned to follow the odor. Daily English 189 – Getting Home Late from School – ESLPod.com Dialogue/Story Dad: Where have you been? Do you know what time it is? Caitlin: I’m sorry, Dad. Dad: Lost track of time? Caitlin: I know, but Janet was showing me something in her locker when a fight broke out in the hallway. Dad: That still doesn’t explain why you’re late. Caitlin: Well, one of the guys in the fight was Dan, Janet’s brother. Dad: I never liked Dan. Caitlin: I don’t. Dad: Oh, really? Caitlin: Dad! Dad: That’s enough.
