Recipes - Show. How to Make Bagels: A Users Manual at Epicurious.com - StumbleUpon. While making bagels may seem challenging to home cooks, it's actually not as complicated as you might think. But before we get into the specific recipe and bagel-making process, let's explore a few urban myths: Do You Need a Special Type of Flour to Make Bagels? No. Bagel shops often use a type of high-gluten flour to achieve that distinctively chewy texture and to stand up to the rigors of mass production, but you can opt for more readily available unbleached bread flour and still achieve fantastic results. Plus, even though bread flour contains slightly less protein—12.5 percent compared with 14 percent for high-gluten flour—it actually tastes better.

Is Barley Malt Syrup Essential to That Distinctive Bagel Taste? Yes and no. Barley malt syrup is available at most supermarkets, but if you can't find it, use brown rice syrup, honey, or agave. Can You Make Good Bagels in One Day? While not a difficult or labor-intensive process, bagel making is a two-day affair. Recipes, Food Photos & Discussion at Open Source Food - StumbleUpon. [Photographs: J. Like most of you guys out there, the ramen of my youth was served in two discrete serving sizes: by the Cup, or by the Oodle. *Damn you, George Lucas, for continually finding new ways to make me poorer and you richer thirteen bucks at a time. Imagine my elation, then, several years later when I found out that Cup Noodles are not the be-all end-all to ramen. Since then, I've been a man obsessed, eating ramen at nearly every ramen-ya in New York, and throughout different regions of Japan.

*Don't worry, our love always manages to bounce back like a good alkaline noodle there's no smell more warming on a cold day than a big hot bowl of tonkotsu ramen set before you The challenge? 20 Super Foods You Need to Build Muscle & Lose Fat | StrongLifts.com. Measurements Technical. Foraging. Asian food. Roy G. Biv Smoothies | Macheesmo - StumbleUpon. I’ve had a few requests over the last few weeks for some smoothie recipes because I let it slip that Betsy and I generally just have a big smoothie for breakfast everyday. Turns out our daily smoothie recipe is a mix between yellow, red, and indigo, but that’ll make more sense to you later. Smoothies can be so varied I really struggled for awhile on how to present a wide spectrum of recipes in one post. That was, of course, until I saw a guy riding a bike last weekend with a rainbow sticker on his backpack. When I saw the rainbow I thought, now those would be some awesome smoothies!

Anytime I think of a rainbow, I can’t help but think of the mnemonic device for remembering the order of the colors: ROY G. BIV! After some tinkering, I present to you, the ROY G. Pretty. Each of the recipes I used are below, but before that, there are a few quick notes on smoothies that I think are important. First, smoothies are all about balance. So let’s take a trip through Roy G. That’s what a caterer once told me and I believe it. Certainly applies here. Whether you’re planning a cookout this weekend or cooking indoors (rain predicted here in Texas), grill up a few of these sizzling treats for a quick appetizer or serve as an entree. I can’t think of a better way to celebrate the Fourth of July than with a big plate of these spicy and cheesy, smoky and crispy chicken nuggets.

If you don’t like hot, leave out the jalapenos or skimp a bit. I definitely prefer fresh jalapenos over the canned or pickled ones traditionally used with nachos. They are milder and prettier too. Cinnamon Sugar Pull-Apart Bread — Joy the Baker - StumbleUpon. I’m sorry. I know it’s Monday morning and you probably came here for some pretty pictures of food that you could glance at, and then move on with your day… and here I go thrusting warm, soft cinnamon sugar bread in your face. It’s not fair.

I know it’s not fair. I know that now you’re craving cinnamon rolls, and cream cheese frosting and chili fries and hot dogs. I am too… and I already ate half of this warm bread. You don’t deserve this sort of torture. This bread hits all the comfort spots in my soul. I’m sorry and you’re welcome and I love you. Let’s start at the beginning. I did this all without the use of a stand mixer and dough hook. This dough can be made and left to rise , then refrigerated overnight for use in the morning. This is the dough just before it’s left to rise. After the dough has rested and risen for an hour, I knead it in a few tablespoons of flour. This is the part in the bread process where you can wrap the dough and place it in the fridge to rest overnight. Magazine's Best Pictures of the Week, January 13 – January 20.

Man-approved spicy oven fries | MNN - Mother Nature Network - StumbleUpon. The Infamous Jacques Torres Chocolate Chip Cookies - StumbleUpon. Now, I have a chocolate chip cookie recipe that I swear by. I love it, I think it is incredible, and I haven’t changed my mind about that.

However, as much as it pains me to say it, these chocolate chip cookies by Jacques Torres are absolutely, without a doubt, the best chocolate chip cookies that I have ever made or tasted in my entire life. I guess that’s why they call him Mr. Chocolate! These are a chocolate chip cookie of another color, that’s for sure. To begin, they use both cake flour and bread flour – that’s right, there is no all-purpose flour to be found in these beauties.

Either way, I made these and everyone that tried them went nuts. Edit: For more Jacques Torres deliciousness, check out my Jacques Torres Chocolate Mudslide Cookies! Your ingredients. Whisk together the cake flour, bread flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt. Beat together the butter and sugars, until light and fluffy, at least 3 minutes. Beat in the eggs, one at a time, followed by the vanilla. Italian food. Easy As 1, 2, 3 | Churros with Chocolate Dipping Sauce & toasty biscuit - StumbleUpon. The other day my friend sent me a text and asked, “I want to try making doughnuts and want to make churros but they look difficult. Are they tricky to get right?!” I replied, “Nope! In fact, churros are the easiest doughnuts of all to make. There are only basic three steps!”

She didn’t believe me, so I whipped up a batch that night, outlining the three steps and texted her with photos at each stage just to prove my point (hooray for technology!). She was so surprised that it only took me about twenty minutes to prepare a fresh batch of these delicious crispy doughnuts. For the doughnuts, I have a recipe that I’ve been using for years, and it never fails me. It really is as easy as 1, 2, 3. Churros with Chocolate Dipping Sauce 2 cups plain flour 1 tablespoon baking powder pinch of salt 500ml of boiling water 2 tablespoons of olive oil vegetable oil, to fry cinnamon sugar, to dust (just combine caster sugar with ground cinnamon) Chocolate Dipping Sauce 150g milk chocolate, chopped 300ml of cream 1. Going SLOW in Sonoma.

I first met Douglas Gayeton, the author of “Slow: Life in a Tuscan Town” in October, when he drove to Los Angeles from his farm in Petaluma for a dinner at Mozza that I had organized. Nancy Silverton was cooking Italian food using local ingredients, Joe Bastianich was pairing Italian and Santa Barbara wines, and Gayeton was there to sign books and tell us all about life in a Tuscan town. In one of those moments of synchronicity that surround Gayeton, Silverton had gone to Book Soup that afternoon to pick up a copy of “Slow” that she had preordered.

She walked into Mozza to find 50 copies of the book stacked up waiting for the evening’s festivities and had no idea she was about to meet the author. Silverton and Gayeton are both friends of Dario Cecchini, made famous in Bill Buford’s book “Heat.” Gayeton’s book is full of characters such as Cecchini, each captured in stunning sepia photographs. A Better Life Where We Are A Slower Life in Sonoma A New American Lifestyle. Loaded Baked Potato Soup - StumbleUpon. Potatoes have been one of my favorites since I can remember. They were also my first “vegetable”. I also love how versatile potatoes are. You can really put whatever you want into your potatoes and they will, most likely, still be good. I know that it may not be cold where most of you are, unless you are in Colorado I hear it is still snowing! , but I would suggest turning up your AC and still making this soup because it is just too delicious not to. Healthy Baked Chicken Nuggets | Ginas Skinny Recipes - StumbleUpon. Chunks of all white meat chicken breasts coated in breadcrumbs and parmesan cheese then baked until golden. An easy chicken recipe your whole family will love. What can be more kid friendly than chicken nuggets, even the pickiest kids like them. Serve them with ketchup, bbq sauce or whatever you like to dip your nuggets into. Adults can serve them over your favorite salad for a satisfying lunch. Kids love finger foods or anything you can eat with toothpicks so when my daughter was young I would make her a dish of bite sized goodies she liked such as tomatoes, olives, pasta, etc. and served them with toothpicks and she always cleaned her plate!

Give it a try, your kids will be so excited! Once I'm in breading mode I usually make breaded zucchini sticks as well and bake them all at the same time along with some pasta and a salad for a complete meal.
