Mark Dingo Francisco: Wes Anderson Postcards – WeTransfer This Works. We were delighted when we discovered Mark Dingo Francisco’s Wes Anderson-inspired postcards. The beautifully illustrated scenes showcase Dingo’s love and fascination for Wes Anderson’s signature cinematographic style: those gorgeously compositioned, colorful buildings and landscapes that make you wish you could immerse yourself in Anderson’s fairytale-like imagination. We spoke to Mark about his work and love for Wes Anderson’s films: What especially about Anderson’s work is appealing to you?

It all began when I fell in love with The Grand Budapest Hotel – the witty dialogue, the overall narrative, compelling characters, the cinematography, and Wes Anderson’s unique visual style. What inspired you to illustrate Wes Anderson’s locations rather than his characters? Fantastic Mr. Is that why you decided to represent these places as postcards accompanied with stamps?

South Carolina-based artist and illustrator Hollis Brown Thornton creates drawings that depict now-obsolete technology of decades past, including cassette tapes, VCR tapes, floppy disks and old video games. Using permanent markers, which means that there is little margin for error, he creates nostalgia-inducing drawings of these defunct tech products, often stacked up and packed together to create mesmerizingly colorful compositions.

Born in 1976 in Szczecin, Poland, he graduated with a graphics degree from the Fine Arts Academy in Poznan. Pawel has been focusing on satire since 2004 and has garnered nearly a hundred prizes and distinctions since then. Much of his artwork deals with serious themes such as poverty, greed, politics and mortality.

While his subject matter is stark, his illustrative style is whimsical and cartoonish. This provides great contrast and makes his work interesting to analyze.
