DIY: Reupholstered Side Chair

Quite a few of my blogger friends did and the results were amazing, but I was still reluctant – Could I really do it? After reading this post, for some reason, “it” clicked and I was on-board. My mission of finding a chair had started. I needed something new anyway for my desk since I’ve been using this chair which has no seat padding and gets uncomfortable after a while. It took some time, but one day when on a thrifting adventure with my mom, I spotted it and bells started to ring. Let me start off by saying, I have no upholstery skills, so this is something that absolutely ANYONE can do. It all started off here… I began by removing the fabric from the back of the chair.

You know those types, right? You get a great idea, then somewhere in the process you realize that your plan's just not coming together, so you take a deep breath, pull out Plan B and try again. And occasionally, you meet a really tough challenge and you may even have to invent a Plan C. Every now and then these things happen when you're a Domestic Artist, right? And then we have blogs so we can tell our fellow Domestic Artists how to avoid the headaches of Plan A and go straight to Plan B. Such was the case for Lily's Magnetic Chalkboard. Plan A was to use my usual particle board that I always use for chalkboards and spray it with Krylon's Magnetic Spray Paint, then top it with Krylon's Chalkboard Spray Paint. Here's where I tell you what Krylon fails to mention on their can: the chalkboard paint cancels out the magnetization of the magnetic paint, so you cannot use these 2 together. So, that is the road that led me to Plan B on this chalkboard.
