The Great Heresies. From Christianity’s beginnings, the Church has been attacked by those introducing false teachings, or heresies.

The Great Heresies

The Bible warned us this would happen. Paul told his young protégé, Timothy, "For the time is coming when people will not endure sound teaching, but having itching ears they will accumulate for themselves teachers to suit their own likings, and will turn away from listening to the truth and wander into myths" (2 Tim. 4:3–4). What Is Heresy? Heresy is an emotionally loaded term that is often misused. It is not the same thing as incredulity, schism, apostasy, or other sins against faith. To commit heresy, one must refuse to be corrected. A person must be baptized to commit heresy. It is important to distinguish heresy from schism and apostasy. With this in mind, let’s look at some of the major heresies of Church history and when they began. Differences among gospels: comparing John with the remaining three gospels

Introduction: Almost all of the biblical information about the earthly ministry of Jesus is contained in the four gospels Mark, Matthew, Luke and John. The word "Gospel" is a translation into English of the Greek word "euangelion" which means "good news. " Many dozens of gospels were written in the first and second century CE; each was believed to be accurate by various groups within the early Christian movement and was extensively used by them. Four of them (Mark, Matthew, Luke and John) were eventually accepted by the early orthodox Christian movement as inspired by God.

Jesus Is Fully Human. This is part 2 of 4 on the incarnation.

Jesus Is Fully Human

Part One: What Is the Incarnation? Jesus has a human body, emotions, mind, and will. And this in no way compromises his deity. When the Word became flesh—when the eternal Son of God took on full humanity—he did not merely become human in part. Brisbane Catholic Education Digital Library - Jesus > Religion. The Dual Nature of Jesus Christ. Critics and inquirers alike often question a core tenet of Christian belief — that Jesus Christ is both fully God and fully human.

The Dual Nature of Jesus Christ

Some claim Jesus was an exceptionally gifted man but not God. Others say he was God, only appearing to be human. Some insist that Jesus was a reincarnated angel. Others claim he did not become God until his resurrection. How can Jesus be God and man? Equally amazing to the doctrine of the Trinity is the doctrine of the Incarnation--that Jesus Christ is God and man, yet one person, forever.

How can Jesus be God and man?

As J.I. Packer has said: "Here are two mysteries for the price of one--the plurality of persons within the unity of God, and the union of Godhead and manhood in the person of Jesus. ...Nothing in fiction is so fantastic as is this truth of the Incarnation," writes contemporary theologian J.I. Packer.1 The early church considered the Incarnation to be one of the most important truths of our faith. Because of this, they formulated what has come to be called the Chalcedonean Creed, a statement which sets forth very what we are to believe and what we are not to believe about the Incarnation. 1.

A proper understanding of these truths clears up much confusion and many difficulties we may have in our mind. Jesus' Two Natures: God and Man. By Matt Slick Jesus is the most important person who has ever lived since he is the Savior, God in human flesh.

Jesus' Two Natures: God and Man

He is not half God and half man. He is fully divine and fully man. In other words, Jesus has two distinct natures: divine and human. Jesus is the Word who was God and was with God and was made flesh (John 1:1, 14). The following chart should help you see the two natures of Jesus "in action": A doctrine that is related to the Hypostatic Union is the communicatio idiomatum (Latin for "communication of properties"). One of the most common errors that non-Christian cults make is not understanding the two natures of Christ.

For a proper understanding of Jesus and, therefore, all other doctrines that relate to Him, His two natures must be properly understood and defined.
