The process of trapping the sunlight produces water that can be used to produce filtered drinkable water, or used for other things like air conditioning etc. Scientists envision that the HCPVT system could provide sustainable energy and fresh water to communities all around the world. “Each 1cmX1cm chip can convert 200-250 watts, on average, over a typical eight-hour day in a sunny region.

Despite my prayers, Adam is now in a Federal Detention Center, being held without bail, charged with assaulting a federal officer and resisting arrest. But there’s one problem: I’ve watched several videos of the event (from different angles) and there appears to be no evidence to support the government’s charge. So the question is: Why did they arrest him? LIX: The World’s Smallest 3D Printing Pen Lets You Draw in the Air LIX is the latest contender in the handheld 3D-printing field. Launched just a few hours ago on Kickstarter, the developers say the super compact design is smaller than any other pen on the market and it can even be powered by the electricity from a USB port. After turning it on the LIX takes less than a minute to heat up and you’re ready to start creating vertical illustrations. Via LIX:

Local governments take a hit in Statehouse property tax deal At first sight, a property tax reform deal is like a unicorn. It’s astounding, really. You figured you might not live to see one. But there it is, with enough votes to actually pass the Iowa Senate and House. A strong gust of bipartisan compromise ripples dramatically through its snowy mane. Scientists have found that memories may be passed down through generations in our DNA New research from Emory University School of Medicine, in Atlanta, has shown that it is possible for some information to be inherited biologically through chemical changes that occur in DNA. During the tests they learned that that mice can pass on learned information about traumatic or stressful experiences – in this case a fear of the smell of cherry blossom – to subsequent generations. According to the Telegraph, Dr Brian Dias, from the department of psychiatry at Emory University, said: ”From a translational perspective, our results allow us to appreciate how the experiences of a parent, before even conceiving offspring, markedly influence both structure and function in the nervous system of subsequent generations. “Such a phenomenon may contribute to the etiology and potential intergenerational transmission of risk for neuropsychiatric disorders such as phobias, anxiety and post-traumatic stress disorder.” Research link- Source: UTAOT.

Frankenveggies: Monsanto Protection Act passes Senate WASHINGTON, March 25, 2013 — Last week, the U.S. Senate approved HR 933, a short term funding measure designed to avoid a March 27 government shutdown. Hidden within HR 933 is section 735, the “Farmer Assurance Provision.” Called the “Monsanto Protection Act” by critics, this section gives the USDA the power to allow the planting, harvest and sale of genetically engineered crops, even if a court rules that they were not properly approved. Short of a Presidential veto, the provision is a certain victory for genetically engineered foods. Tagged sharks send Twitter messages to warn tourists if they are approaching a beach Scientists have fixed transmitters to sharks around Western AustraliaWhen a tagged shark swims within range of a beach, an alert is triggeredThis generates an automatic tweet with the size and location of the sharkIt is sent from Surf Life Saving Western Australia's (SLSWA) Twitter feed By Victoria Woollaston Published: 13:57 GMT, 30 December 2013 | Updated: 22:15 GMT, 30 December 2013 Western Australia is now considered the world's deadliest place for shark attacks and since 2012 six people have been killed - with the number of attacks said to be rising. In a bid to solve this problem, scientists from the area have fitted 320 sharks with special transmitters that track the animals’ movements. If a tagged shark swims within a kilometre of any beach along the west coast, a receiver will trigger an alert, which then generates an automatic warning tweet.

Outstanding arrest warrants This database contains more than 4,500 outstanding arrest warrants for people wanted by the Linn and Johnson County sheriff’s offices, and the University of Iowa Police Department, which were added to the database Oct. 1, 2007. The oldest warrants date back to 1965 and include warrants for everything from parking violations, missed court appearances to felony theft and sexual-abuse charges. Anyone with information about a person appearing in the database should not confront that person on their own, but should contact the Linn or Johnson County sheriff’s offices.
