Drivers of Change Card Set. Brainstorming rules. Extremely popular approach to idea generation, but often not done as effectively as it could be.

brainstorming rules

A basic tool that all design teams should be able to apply well. Description Originally developed by Alex Osborn in the 1930s as a tool so support fact, idea and solution finding, based on two principles: Deferred judgement - in a typical meeting, we both ideate and evaluate simultaneously and are trained to be dominant at judgement. It is essential in a brainstorm to be able to suspend judgement and focus on the ideation. Method Warm up and prepare No physical exercise should be taken without first warming up and this is also true for mental exercise.

Establish and agree playful rules The rules are not there to constrain but to ensure that the brainstorm is effective (see illustration). State and discuss the problem - have a sharp focus Always begin with a clear problem statement. Brainstorm. Generating New Ideas. Foresight at Arup. Our team. ISCTE – Lisbon University Institute

In the past, ISCTE-IUL was named Instituto Superior de Ciências do Trabalho e da Empresa abbreviated ISCTE (in English Higher Institute of Business and Labour Sciences), but that name was dropped in 2009 when ISCTE-IUL was changed to a university institute with foundational nature (along with the University of Porto and the University of Aveiro). Schools[edit] ISCTE-IUL is constituted by four schools:[1] Master in Complexity Sciences. The Master in Complexity Sciences has as primary objective the training and research in the area of complexity studies, assuming an interdisciplinary perspective which associates approaches from different areas of knowledge.

Master in Complexity Sciences

This course intends to contribute for endowing its students with skills that may enable them to understand the environment in which they are included through the application of technologies of modeling and methodologies and computational simulation, as well as to solve complex problems using information technologies, namely organizational processes' support systems in complex environments. The development of the aforementioned skills will enable the integration of multidisciplinary knowledge and the autonomous formulation of conclusions based upon frequently incomplete data.

The course has the length of two years. M/C Journal: "Stigmergic Collaboration: The Evolution of Group Work" Introduction 1The steady rise of Wikipedia.org and the Open Source software movement has been one of the big surprises of the 21st century, threatening stalwarts such as Microsoft and Britannica, while simultaneously offering insights into the emergence of large-scale peer production and the growth of gift economies. 2Many questions arise when confronted with the streamlined efficacy and apparent lack of organisation and motivation of these new global enterprises, not least “how does this work?”

M/C Journal: "Stigmergic Collaboration: The Evolution of Group Work"

Stigmergic collaboration provides a hypothesis as to how the collaborative process could jump from being untenable with numbers above 25 people, towards becoming a new driver in global society with numbers well over 25,000. Stigmergic Collaboration 3Pierre-Paul Grasse first coined the term stigmergy in the 1950s in conjunction with his research on termites. Collaboration is dependent upon communication, and communication is a network phenomenon. 1. 2. 3. 4.

Etherpad... and other options. Etherpad (previously known as EtherPad)[1][2] is a web-based collaborative real-time editor, allowing authors to simultaneously edit a text document, and see all of the participants' edits in real-time, with the ability to display each author's text in their own color.

Etherpad... and other options

There is also a chat box in the sidebar to allow meta communication. First launched in November 2008, the software was acquired by Google in December 2009 and released as open source later that month. Several services now use the Etherpad software, including PiratePad, Telecomix Pad, Framapad, Mozilla Pad (MoPad), PrimaryPad, QikPad, and TitanPad. Further development is coordinated by the Etherpad Foundation. Features and implementation[edit] Anyone can create a new collaborative document, known as a "pad". The software auto-saves the document at regular, short intervals, but participants can permanently save specific versions (checkpoints) at any time. Launch[edit] Acquisition[edit]
