About QISA The Quaglia Institute for Student Aspirations (QISA) is an independent nonprofit organization dedicated to studying, promoting, and putting into practice the conditions that foster student aspirations in schools and learning communities around the world. From the outset, QISA has been guided by the belief that students are the potential, not the problem, in today's educational system. We are driven by the importance of student voice and a conviction that students have something to teach us. They are our companions on this educational journey. Our work is based on over 30 years of research in the field of student aspirations. This research shows that students who believe in themselves, are actively engaged in their learning, and feel a sense of purpose in school are more likely to develop high aspirations.

Squarehead Teachers My friend, Rachel, recently helped coordinate this mind-blowing art project at her school: It incorporates so much good stuff into one project! Collaboration, color wheel discussion, self-portrait and drawing principles, and the list goes on. It’s especially cool to see the improvement kids make in drawing as they get older (there were drawings from all grades in the mural). Although it is a fair amount of work to put together, this art project is definitely something that all the kids (and community members) will love to look at. lil love monsters we had a kids craft day last week and had a fun time making these lil love monsters they are always a hit with our kids (and us adults) it’s fun to see how each one turns out a little (or a lot) different from the others. Halloween MASKS These are our Halloween masks – they are merry rather than scary! They were copied on colored cardboard from the KROKOTAK templates, then they were cut out and colored by the kids. We added pom-pom noses to make them even funnier. Halloween masks:

20 Simple Assessment Strategies You Can Use Every Day 20 Simple Assessment Strategies You Can Use Every Day by Saga Briggs The ultimate goal of teaching is understanding. Why color schemes work Last week, we talked about the first part of why some color schemes work and why others don’t (quick recap: it has to do with the color relationship at work in the color scheme we’re looking at). Now, let’s talk about the second reason a color scheme can pop – contrast. In order to do that, we’ve got to know more about the two parts of color we haven’t covered yet: value and saturation. DIY: Watercolor Silhouette I took the girls to the zoo this weekend and I had some fun FINALLY experimenting with my zoom lens. It was cool to take some photos of something other than the kids for once. So, I came home with some cool animal shots and I was trying to think of something to do with them here on Prudent Baby. Here is a DIY for these little watercolor silhouettes that I made. FULL DIY and FREE animal images for download after the jump.
