Peanut Butter, Banana and Chocolate Toast : Cafe Fernando – Food Blog - banana - bread - butter - chocolate - fleur de sel - peanut butter - Bread May 11th, 2010 | Category: Bread, Chocolate Here’s what I did with two slices of this bread: Peanut Butter, Banana and Chocolate Toast. All you need is two slices of homemade bread, two tablespoons of peanut butter, four thick slices of banana and two ounces of bittersweet chocolate. The trick is to roughly chop some of the chocolate and shave the rest very finely. The shaved chocolate melts completely and the large pieces remain solid, providing a nice crunch. Speaking of crunch, a couple of days after I took the photo above, I had another great idea: To make it even more delicious and interesting, try brushing the top with some melted butter before toasting and sprinkle crunchy fleur de sel right after. Feel free to do your own variation, but make sure to use a homemade loaf – it really is worth the time. Enjoy! Peanut Butter, Banana and Chocolate Toast Ingredients Serves 1 Method

Bottle it up The best stuff in life is free. Like sunshine, blue skies and THE OCEAN…if you have access to it, that is. Which I don’t. And I know it’s only January but I’m already Jonesing for spring. So, to scratch the itch, I decided to go with beach hair. Problem was I needed sea spray to get the really beachy look and texture. So with much hesitation and skepticism I took on the task of making my own, with stuff I already had around the house. BELIEVE me when I tell you, this is BY FAR the best sea spray I have ever used, EVER. RECIPE: 1 Cup WARM water 3 Tablespoons Sea Salt 1 Tablespoon Gel or Spray Gel 1/2 Tablespoon Conditioner (or leave-in) A couple spritzes of your favorite perfume DIRECTIONS: Mix Warm water and salt first and shake well.

italian sodas June 30, 2011 | Sweet Recipes | Comments Growing up, these Italian sodas were my favorite!! My mom and I would always stop by a little coffee shack on our road trips to Oregon. I remember ordering the blueberry Italian soda in the summer instead of ice cream because they were so refreshing. I hadn’t had one of these since I was a kid, so I wanted to recreate the easy recipe. I even made my own blueberry and strawberry syrup instead of using Torani. Photo Credit: Sugar and Charm Party Recipe: Bacon-Wrapped Potato Bites with Spicy Sour Cream Dipping Sauce Recipes from The Kitchn Okay, we're not going to win any awards for thinking up this combination, but hey — these potato bites are easy, delicious, and perfect for a sports-loving crowd, should you find yourself surrounded by one this weekend. They even remind us of sports-bar food ... like little deconstructed potato skins. (Image credit: Emma Christensen) We decided to make these after countless evenings munching on these bacon-wrapped dates, which are also very yummy, but got us thinking about other things we could wrap in bacon. Potatoes? Potatoes could be perfect. If you can find tiny new potatoes, those would be even more aesthetically precious. With the creamy wedge of potato and the crunchy bacon, the sour cream dip is what pushes this appetizer over the edge. Makes about 3 dozen bites Preheat the oven to 400°F. Wash and dry the potatoes. Drain the potatoes and put them in a large bowl. Cut the strips of bacon into thirds. Cook the potatoes for 15 minutes, then flip each piece.

50 Ways to Waste a Life post written by: Marc Chernoff Email If you don’t go after what you want, you’ll never get it. If you don’t ask the right questions, you’ll always get the wrong answers. Gyoza Recipe (Japanese Pan-Fried Dumplings) Thursday, October 22, 2009 Hello friends! Please say hi to Rachael, who’ve I’ve been mentoring in the blog-world as a Steamy Kitchen intern. She’s a kick-ass gyoza ninja and I’ve asked her to write up her super-secret recipe for these savory pan-fried Japanese style dumplings. Rachael lived in Japan for a number of years and here’s her story and a step by step photo tutorial on how to make Gyoza. ~ Jaden How did a girl who was born in the Rocky Mountains and raised in California and who graduated with French and Law degrees end up writing a food blog called La Fuji Mama and striving to perfect her gyoza recipe? My kitchen consisted of a large sink, a gas range with two burners and a “fish fryer” beneath the burners (like a little mini broiler), a refrigerator that was considerably shorter than I was, a toaster oven, and two cupboards. I quickly settled into life, feeling much more comfortable the second time around, and trying to embrace the experience. Gyoza are really easy to make. 1. 2.

Grilled Cheese with Tomato, Pickles and Potato Chips My husband doubted me on this one. He thought the chips would get, "...soggy." The fastest way to get me to do something... is to tell me it can't be done. Meet my husband's lunch. He knows me so well. ;) Grilled Cheese with Tomato, Pickles and Potato Chips You'll need: 2 pieces of bread 3 slices of American Cheese thinly sliced pickle slices, dabbed dry 1 thin slice of tomato Good handful of potato chips (Ridged chips work best) tablespoon of butter Directions: (Assemble bottom to top: bread, cheese 1, pickles, tomato, cheese 2, chips, cheese 3, bread) Heat 1/2 tablespoon of butter in a pan over medium heat, once bubbling carefully add your sandwich. Lightly press the sandwich down with a spatula or here I used a pot lid just to apply a little pressure to the sandwich. After about 3-4 minutes, lift sandwich up, add the other 1/2 tablespoon of butter and flip the sandwich to grill the other side. Again, apply light pressure to the sandwich. After another 3-4 minutes or so, turn off the heat. Pin It

Why Does My Dog . . . Sniff the Ground Before He Poops? - Vetstreet Every day, all over the world, dogs repeat the same ritual: Nose to the ground, they sniff along a dotted line of an invisible treasure map, stopping at that “X” marks the spot where they can finally get down to business. What’s with all this sniffing, anyway? The simple answer: It’s the way dogs have been communicating with one another for centuries. Scent Marking Is Serious Business Scent marking is an instinctual behavior in which a dog deposits his own odor — in the form of urine or feces — onto his environment to mark territory or make a statement. Other dogs who come upon the scent can discern a lot about fellow canines in the neighborhood. Anal Gland Aromas While urine marking is the most common form of scent marking, feces can also be used to leave a message. Since dogs can also express their anal glands when scared, the scent may also serve to alert other dogs to danger.
