The Elementary Math Maniac: A Fun Free Tool for Practicing Counting If you have ever been in a K-2 math class, you know how important counting is. I recently posted some of my favorite you tube videos for practicing counting, my favorite counting books, and have written a seven part series on estimating and counting routines that I use in my classroom. I have also written about interventions I use to help kids learn to count. Today I want to share with you a great tool to use on your computer, projector or SMART board to help your students practice many important counting skills Flip Counter This is a demonstration tool provided by ict games. The life and numbers of Fibonacci Fibonacci is one of the most famous names in mathematics. This would come as a surprise to Leonardo Pisano, the mathematician we now know by that name. Multiples and Factors In this activity, students identify multiples and factors and solve problems that involve finding highest common factors and lowest common multiples. Students will need a good recall of multiplication basic facts in order to be able to do these activities. Activity One and Game Discuss the definitions of multiples and factors (on the student book page) before your students begin this activity. Make sure that they understand that every number is a factor of itself, because if they divide a number by itself, there is no remainder.

Interactive Fraction Wall explore Fractions Percentages and Decimals Fraction walls are a great way to teach about fractions and in particular equivalent fractions. In a fraction wall each row or layer of the wall represents one whole number. The layers are divided into a number of bricks and hence each brick represents a fraction whose denominator is equal to the number of bricks in that layer. Each brick can be turned on or off by clicking it. This wall also allows the display of decimal and percentage values.
