Math Apps for the iPhone, iPod Touch, and iPad Yesterday, while browsing through the app store on iTunes, I came across a banner-style ad at the top of the page for apps that help you to learn math. I found this feature very helpful and decided to browse through some of the apps. The topics were broken down into sections including Numbers & Operation, Geometry, Algebra, Calculus, Probability & Statistics, Applying Math, and Math Games. How the iPad 2 Became My Favorite Computer My iPad 2 and ZaggFolio, in the press room at IFA in Berlin, September 2011. Can the iPad replace a PC? Ever since Apple announced its tablet nearly two years ago, the Internet has been awash in discussion of this question. Most of it has had a pretty theoretical feel and has gravitated towards conventional wisdom. A piece by Gotta Be Mobile’s Will Shanklin comes to the typical conclusions:

Virtual Rat Dissection App June 6th, 2011 Comments Off Application: Rat Dissection What it is: The Virtual Rat Dissection app from Punflay is a fantastic alternative to the actual dissection in the classroom. The app is perfect for students who are learning about organs and the organ system in life science. The app is brilliant in the way it offers students all of the tools that come with a real dissection without all the mess (and smell…do you all remember the smell? *gag reflex kicking in*). iPad 2 as a serious writing machine (how-to) I knew when I bought the iPad 2 a while back that it would provide a number of uses for me, but I quickly discovered it fills more important roles in my work than I believed it would. One of those, a key for me, is as a serious system to use for a lot of the writing I do in my work. I write 3,000 words most days for all of the projects I have going on, and the iPad 2 has stepped up to handle a lot of the task quite nicely. I wrote about using the iPad 2 for writing a while back, and contantly receive questions about how I use it in this role.

did-you-know « teatime magazine Color is everywhere. It is all around us. But have you ever stopped to think about what it all means? Make a Bootable Mac OS X 10.7 Lion Installer from a USB Flash Drive I’m going to walk through the process of making a bootable Mac OS X 10.7 Lion installation drive out of any USB flash drive key. This is similar to the process of making a bootable Lion installer DVD, but I prefer a USB flash drive because it’s faster, smaller, and I have a MacBook Air so an installation DVD isn’t too useful for me. This is pretty easy to do, but I have made the walkthrough as simple as possible with plenty of screenshots, so just follow along the instructions.

How To Create An iPhone Or Android App Without Any Coding Skills But if you’re really eager to make a mobile app based on your website, business, organization, or just a fun quiz game, a website called Buzztouch may well be the web-based solution for you. Buzztouch is essentially Content Management Software for iOS and Android. It provides a template-based process in which you import your app’s information into the online software, and in turn it will create the code that you need to compile the data for your application.

Ambitious iOS Apps I've been interested recently in the apps available for iOS that push the very edges of what we thought was possible on a mobile device. Informed by my recent experience of spending a week on iOS alone, I decided to try and express what I mean by "ambitious" and to collect some examples of those kind of apps. When iOS first appeared, it was a smartphone OS. Today, with the iPad, it's much more than that. To be an "ambitious" iOS app, I think you need to be doing one or more of the following things: HUNGRY PLANET By Peter Menzel. Twelve posters show families—in their homes with a week's worth of food displayed around them—in Bhutan, Chad, China, Ecuador, Germany, Guatemala, India, Japan, Kuwait, Mali, Mexico, and the United States. The curriculum guide includes critical thinking questions, writing prompts, activities, reading strategies, and a PowerPoint® presentation (with eight slides corresponding to each poster) that leads students through the process of visual analysis. By examining the photographs, as well as the country facts (life expectancy, obesity rate) and family information (food sources, cooking methods) provided on each 17"w x 22h" poster, students can draw inferences, compare and contrast, and make generalizations about our "hungry planet." The related hardback supplies more country statistics and an essay about the lives and eating habits of each family, along with brilliant full-color photographs.
