Does iOS 5 Land IT Back in the Driver's Seat? - TechNotes

When Apple released iOS 5, the latest incarnation of its popular iPhone operating system, in October, end users were attracted to the new iPhone 4S with its voice-driven assistant, "Siri." But should enterprises care about iOS 5? The answer is a qualified yes. The new version further expands IT control over mobile devices. Let's take a look at some of those new iOS 5 capabilities. Unified Communications Manager on virtualized servers - Cisco Unified Communications Manager on virtualized servers  [Cisco Unified Communications Manager (CallManager)

Consider the following, when using Cisco UCS C210 Rack-Mount Servers : Install, upgrade, and recovery procedures now use "soft media" such as ISO or FLP (virtual floppy) if the server does not have a DVD drive. The answer file generated by the Answer File Generator (platformConfig.xml) cannot get read from a USB key to perform an unattended installation. Instead, you must put the answer file into a FLP image to be mounted in the floppy drive.
In order for routers to forward packets to remote networks, they must know how to reach them. There are two options: static or dynamic routes. Static Routes

Ethernet

http://www.firewall.cx/networking-topics/ethernet.html "Ethernet" is the term that is casually applied to a number of very different data link implementations. You will hear people refer to "Ethernet" and they might be referring to the original DEC, Intel and Xerox implementation of Version 1 or Version 2 Ethernet. This, in a sense, is the "true" definition of "Ethernet". When the IEEE built the 802.3 standards in 1984 the term "Ethernet" was broadly applied to them as well.
Introduction The Netomata Config Generator (NCG) software distribution includes an example of use in the "sample" subdirectory, which is documented in the Web Hosting Example wiki page. This page documents the network design that underlies that example.

CCIE Practical Studies, Volume II | Classifying and Marking Traffic with CAR

http://www.informit.com/library/content.aspx?b=CCIE_Practical_Studies_II&seqNum=66 Committed access rate (CAR) is a traffic policy classification and marking method used to police IP traffic based on IP precedence, DSCP value, MAC addresses, or access lists. Traffic policy classification involves defining a traffic policy and using CAR to enforce rate limits. Traffic that conforms to the configured rate limit can be forwarded as is, or it can be marked to provide QoS at different points all the way through the network. Marking changes the value of the IP precedence or DSCP in the ToS byte from the IP header. The traffic-marking action is defined either when a packet conforms to a value or when a packet exceeds a value.
http://fasterdata.es.net/network-tuning/ One of the principle causes of poor data transfer performance is packet loss between the data transfer client and server hosts. There are many possible causes of packet loss, ranging from bad or failing hardware to misconfigured hosts or network equipment. Network design, coupled with proper configuration of hosts, routers and switches, can eliminate packet loss and result in significantly improved data transfer performance. <p style="text-align:right;color:#A8A8A8"></p>

Daren Matthews » QoS – Ingress and Egress Queuing using 2Q3T or 1P1Q3T

1P1Q3T – ingress queuing As switch platforms have architectures based on oversubscription, they have been engineered to guarantee QoS by protecting critical traffic trying to access the backplane/stack-ring via ingress queuing. Ingress queuing can be configured as 2Q3T or 1P1Q3T, with the latter being the recommended configuration (as it supports the RFC 3246 EF PHB). 1P1Q3T Ingress Queuing Model
