Another Look at the Drawings of Oldřich Kulhánek

In 1971 he was arrested by the Secret Police and imprisoned for 'defamation of the allied socialist states.' His distorted portrait of Stalin and other graphics were considered 'ideologically dangerous.' Kulhánek created the design for the current Czech banknotes and postage stamps. PORNOPIA. Julia Randall: Lures, Decoys, Tongues, and Bubble Gum. Julia Randall is in love with drawing, and uses her seductive technique to craft images that subtly challenge assumptions about corporeality, desire, and the natural world.

Julia Randall: Lures, Decoys, Tongues, and Bubble Gum

Intersecting sensibilities activate her work; images are simultaneously erotic and humorous, beautiful and repulsive. A million first steps. We have released over a million images onto Flickr Commons for anyone to use, remix and repurpose.

A million first steps

These images were taken from the pages of 17th, 18th and 19th century books digitised by Microsoft who then generously gifted the scanned images to us, allowing us to release them back into the Public Domain. The images themselves cover a startling mix of subjects: There are maps, geological diagrams, beautiful illustrations, comical satire, illuminated and decorative letters, colourful illustrations, landscapes, wall-paintings and so much more that even we are not aware of.

Which brings me to the point of this release. We are looking for new, inventive ways to navigate, find and display these 'unseen illustrations'. Galerie de The British Library. Drawings by Nicholas Di Genova. Illustrations by Jon Lau. We love the simple, painterly style of these illustrations by Jon Lau.

A catalogue of the show will also be available on the day. The artist will be bringing the last few copies of some old merchandise, so hurry before everything goes! Incredible Etchings by Etsuko Fukaya. It's easy to get lost in the rich details of Japanese artist Etsuko Fukaya's etchings with the lively creatures filling every inch of the enriched world that the artist created for them.

Incredible Etchings by Etsuko Fukaya

"I want to draw what is alive," she says. Fukaya specifically chose etching as a way to express those details and allow her to draw extremely delicate lines. Finding even a magnifying object distracting, she works solely using the naked eye. NeochaEDGE /// Celebrating Chinese Creativity. Painting. Pardee's Pick: The Art of Cody Schibi. Two years ago, artist Dave Correia and I, along with filmmaker Stephen Reedy, drove across the USA over the course of a month, stopping in various towns, encouraging anyone and everyone to draw by offering to trade "a sketch for a sketch" Out of all of the towns, cities, and dungeons that we set up our gypsy-camps in, and amongst all of the rad art that we traded and collected with over a thousand people, ONE person stood out immediately among the crowd. His name is Cody Schibi, and he dominated both of our brains while we were sketching and hanging in Austin Texas at the Alamo Drafthouse Movie Theater.

On average, because of our schedule, Dave and I had about 3-4 minutes to sketch something in exchange for whatever sketch that was handed to us. We knew we weren't creating masterpieces within this time constraint, but a lot of the time we knew it was more about the fun and the experience and the shared time with the artist that was nice enough to stand in line.

Lora Zombie. Godmachine — Posters. The Art of God Machine. Godmachine was born in Cardiff, South Wales, it was a difficult birth; his parents were in London at the time. He grew up on a steady diet of nothing, 2000AD comics and Santa Cruz skateboards. His art is born of Jim Philips, raised by Simon Bisley and adopted by his everyday influences; film, literature and music. He uses a wacom, Photoshop and coffee to achieve his detailed images that have made quite an impact on band merch, skateboards and clothing companies today. The Work of Joanna Krótka.
