These are available at most electronics stores and many online vendors. If buying these components separately, be sure the cable connectors match. The video, and audio, if used, usually are RCA connectors, but the plugs may vary in gender. Most such cameras require 12vdc power supplies with 2.1mm center positive connectors. Monitoring, recording and viewing nest box video The most basic method of viewing nest box video is to plug the cable into your tv. In addition to using the capture box, I also have been using a quad splitter to monitor up to 4 cameras at once. The quad splitter was used 5 years ago to monitor barn swallow nests and a weather station (right).

Barn swallows frequently build nests over door frames and on top of porch lights. An artificial nest placed elsewhere on the porch when the swallow mud is removed will likely be readily accepted. For instance Dick Peterson's nest box was drawn by Dick. This particular drawing required a great deal of editing to clean up the drawing from the scanning process, however I believe I accurately recreated the original drawings. There may be instances where you may have questions about the drawings.
