Veena Das In this course, we examine some of the gendered dimensions of mass violence and social repair, with particular attention to sexual and gender-based violence. The course focuses on armed conflict in sub-Saharan Africa and Latin America, but draws upon studies of other forms of violent repression in countries and regions as well. The class is organized into two sections. First, we examine how and why violence against civilians in armed conflict is both sexed and gendered, tracing the nexus of global, national and local structures of power and domination.

Virginia Capote Díaz (Universidad de Granada) El siguiente ensayo trata de abordar el análisis de textos sobre la vida de mujeres ex combatientes que han ofrecido su voz y su experiencia personal a la creación de un corpus literario-periodístico que viene, fundamentalmente, a resemantizar los procesos históricos que han regido el conflicto armado colombiano en las últimas décadas.
La finalidad de este discurso es la de situar a la mujer en una posición merecida desde el punto de vista de la historia y evitar que su papel en los procesos de guerra y paz queden silenciados. Concretamente estudiaremos algunos testimonios de ex guerrilleras contenidos en las obras de Elvira Sánchez – Blake, Patria se escribe con sangre y Patricia Lara, Las mujeres en la guerra.
