The first time I heard the word "banoffee" was in the movie Love Actually, in the scene when Kiera Knightly's character Juliet shows up at her new husband's best friend's house in the hopes of getting her hands on the video he shot during their wedding. She thinks he hates her, because he's always been rude and standoffish, and so brings along banoffee pie as a bribe. There is some joking about the pie being a terrible choice, and it's revealed that it's not hate he feels, but rather a deep and hopelessly unrequited love.
Then he runs off, but not before he zippers his sweater with great force while Dido's voice soars in the background. No exaggeration, this is one of my top 5 all time favorite movie scenes. (Watch the full scene here when you're done reading this post. Not because of the tension and storyline, but because of the purpose with which he zippers that sweater, and because of the way the zippering was so perfectly timed with the soaring bit in the Dido song.
Lemon Drop Jelly Shots. How grown up can jelly be? I used to live in a large group house in DC and every year we would throw a massive Halloween party. We would usually have between 150-200 people show up at this party. So yea. We needed a lot of booze. One of the housemates was always on Jello shot duty. We’d make a few hundred of them and they were always a big hit. While it’s pretty quick to mix some booze with some Jello and get a really tasty shot, sometimes you may want to class it up a bit. When that times comes, ditch the plastic cups, put aside the box mix, and make these suckers. Directions 1) For syrup, cut lemons into eighths and add to a medium pot along with sugar and water. 2) As syrup heats, stir regularly and mash the lemons to get out juice and oils from the rind. 3) Once simmering, stir for 5 minutes and then remove from heat to cool a bit. 4) Strain to remove any lemon pieces. 5) Add water to measured amount of syrup and sprinkle gelatin over the top. 7) Remove from heat and add in booze.

" Lady at the next table By Meathead Goldwyn Pastrami is Kosher barbecue, it is corned beef with chutzpah, and it is at its ballsiest at Katz's Delicatessen in New York City. Of course I can't be sure Kohn was leveling with me about the Katz's method. Here's an overview of the basics, plus a recipe with more specific instructions. Weighing/Measuring the Ingredients Professional bakers prefer the accuracy of weighing ingredients, but if you don't have a kitchen scale, stick to volume measurements.
For flour, use the scoop-and-swipe method: Fill the measuring cup above the desired amount and swipe off the excess with a flat tool, such as a pastry blade or an icing spatula. As with all bread recipes, you may need to slightly adjust the flour or water during the mixing and kneading process. Every brand of flour has different moisture content and some absorb more or less water than others. Follow the recipe's description prompts to achieve the right texture. For ingredients used in small amounts, such as yeast and salt, measure with teaspoons and tablespoons instead of a scale—unless you're making an extra-large batch.
