Might the Oyster card swipe the world-famous London Underground map off the walls of tube stations for ever?

Is it the end of the line for London's iconic tube map?

From the beginning of 2010, Oyster cards can be used for travel on all public transport services in Greater London including tube trains, buses, trams, suburban trains, the Docklands Light Railway and Thames Clipper river boats. What this revolution in ticketing means is that Londoners and visitors to the capital will be able to travel seamlessly above, below and across the city, as well as out to its farthest-flung suburbs.

Only sensible, but what of the tube map? Tunnel vision: a history of the London tube map. 26 November 2009: Tube maps have been part of London life since the birth of the Underground, and were initially as confusing as the city itself: a tangle of different lines woven around the curving River Thames.

Tunnel vision: a history of the London tube map

Enter Harry Beck, an LU engineer who in 1931 came up with the radical idea of presenting the ever-expanding network as a circuit diagram rather than a geographical map – so creating a modernist design icon that has never been bettered. But as the Oystercard zone expands, are its days numbered? Take a look back at the changing face of the tube over the last century. How mood mapping can help you overcome bipolar disorder - Holy K. Liz Miller’s book, Mood Mapping, might be a great read for you. Miller, herself, suffers from bipolar disorder, and after a long struggle with the disease, she began charting how she felt and why she felt the way she did at various times during the day. Torrent Sites Get Feedback from RSS Inventor. RSS and BitTorrent are a great match, but despite the good fit between the two technologies there is no standardized format for BitTorrent feeds.

Torrent Sites Get Feedback from RSS Inventor

Much to the surprise of many torrent site owners, RSS inventor Dave Winer has offered a helping hand to fix this problem. For those not familiar with the term, RSS is an acronym for ‘Really Simple Syndication’. It’s a really convenient mechanism which allows you to receive regular automated updates from your favorite sites. Most news sites have RSS feeds that let you automatically receive updates when a new article is published. Similarly, most BitTorrent sites also publish RSS feeds for their content, allowing users to download or receive notifications on new torrents without having to search for files manually. Most of the popular torrent clients support RSS downloading which works well with the RSS feeds produced by most torrent sites.

Dave Winer, the original designer of RSS, has noticed this ‘mess’ as well and has opted to change it. Torrent News, Torrent Sites and the latest Scoops. Twitter Status 3.6 Beta 4. How to lose an argument online 3.6 Beta 4. Have an argument.

A jigsaw not a House of Cards 3.6 Beta 4

This post will contain pretty much no science, if you're interested in that then I've put some references at the end. Instead this is a post about my personal journey with anthropogenic global warming (AGW). So why did I decide to write this now? A couple of reasons really: the Copenhagen Climate Summit is next week but mainly climategate, the publication of leaked e-mails and data from University of East Anglia Climate Research Unit.

I was listening to the Today programme Radio 4 in the UK in the gym, I was so frustrated by their climategate piece I had to turn the radio off and start to compose this post in my head. My journey begin in 2007 when "The Great Global Warming Swindle" (TGGWS) was broadcast. I say my journey began in 2007, but actually it began long before then. So how does a scientist get on outside their field? I also plunged into the blogosphere, reading both contrarian and conventional sites. SomeBeans 3.6 Beta 4.
