Moist Chocolate Cake. There’s something to be said for a cake that you can whip up at 9 o’clock on a Friday night, after a serious doozy of a week, when you need some baking therapy that requires little to no brain power. By the time this past weekend hit, I think anything requiring technique or poise in the kitchen would have had induced some kind of cerebral short circuiting – I imagine there would have been sparks, probably some twitching and likely even drool. Okay fine, so there might have been drool anyway. Actually, when the cake emerged, there was probably drooling and clapping. I tell you that because I trust you won’t judge me. This cocoa-based cake is deeply chocolaty and incredibly moist.

I have used this recipe to make sheet cakes, layer cakes, cupcakes, mini cupcakes… really, you can’t go wrong. ***Note: I have been asked dozens of times if you can taste the coffee, and the answer is no; it does not taste at all like coffee. P.S. Moist Chocolate Cake Author: Jennifer Hill Recipe type: Dessert. Chocolate Truffles Recipe : Alton Brown. Directions Place the 10 ounces of chocolate and butter in a medium size glass mixing bowl. Microwave for 30 seconds. Remove and stir, and repeat this process 1 more time. Set aside. Heat the heavy cream and corn syrup in a small saucepan over medium heat until simmering. Using a melon baller, scoop chocolate onto a sheet pan lined with parchment paper and return to the refrigerator for 30 minutes. Place the cocoa powder, nuts, and/or toasted coconut each in its own pie pan and set aside.

In the meantime, place the 8 ounces of chocolate into a medium mixing bowl which is sitting on top of a heating pad lined bowl, with the heating pad set to medium. Remove the truffles from the refrigerator and shape into balls by rolling between the palms of your hands. Dip an ice cream scoop into the chocolate and turn upside down to remove excess chocolate. 10 Rich Recipes for National Cheesecake Day. French toast and bacon cupcakes. Mini Nutella Fried Pies with Glaze. Pumpkin Cinnamon Rolls Recipe. If you happen to read MBA on a regular basis, you may remember me discussing my fear of yeast and my attempt to conquer that fear with the help of Amber from Bluebonnets and Brownies. Well since that post a couple of months back, I have been a bread baking fool and no longer doubt myself in the yeast department. In fact, I probably have more bread baking supplies and tools than some bakeries and with that came a serious addiction to the King Arthur Flour website.

Since I’m no longer a yeast novice, you can imagine how excited I am to flaunt my newly developed skills for this week’s Holiday Recipe Exchange sponsored by Red Star Yeast. As soon as we gained Red Star Yeast as a sponsor, I knew exactly what I was going to make – Pumpkin Cinnamon Rolls. The pumpkin puree in the roll base creates a slightly denser dough, so these definitely are not as pillowy as a traditional Cinnamon Rolls – but they are just as delicious. How To Participate Link Up Your Recipes: This Week's Prize: Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Truffles | annie's cooking lab. Last weekend a friend I decided to neglect our school work and go for a hike in the snow followed by dinner and a movie at my house. I had all the ingredients on hand for some tasty Corn and Cheese Chowder which was perfect way to warm up after a cold hike.

My friend said she’d be in charge of bringing ingredients for us to make dessert and I was so excited to see that she’d picked out these truffles! Eating the cookie dough is usually one of the best parts of making cookies, but then you feel bad because you’re supposed to be making cookies- not snacking on the dough! These cute little truffles taste just like cookie dough and since they don’t have any eggs, they’re totally safe to eat. I’m meeting a new friend for lunch today. And an old friend for line-dancing tonight.

And I’m feeling rather spoiled about it all. I mean, moms shouldn’t have TWO social events on the calendar for the same day, should we? Which brings me to the point of what moms should be doing anyway. For a long time, I measured myself by what I remember of my own mom. The odd thing is, I’ve now reached the age in my life where I am exactly as old as she was. Such is the fate of all moms. And I realized then that everyday is really a bit like living in an imaginary world.

Because, ancient people don’t do lunch with new friends. And they definitely don’t join in a on rousing night session of line-dancing with old friends. They don’t make oatmeal in the morning in bare feet and spandex shorts. And ancient people DEFINITELY do not fill their day’s with a slew of other snappy, bodacious activities. See? I’m crazy hip. Whatever are my kids thinking? Ingredients: 4 eggs 1 cup brown sugar 3/4 cup cocoa powder.

How to Make Crêpes Without a Crêperie. A brief tutorial on how to make crêpes at home, no crêperie required. Just you, your stove and a bit of batter and you’ll have a plate full of thin pancakes in no time at all. I’ve always wanted to live abroad, even if just for a short time. While the dream of leaving and exploring was there, the reality was and is that I remain fully rooted in the Midwest. In college I was a single parent. In order to declare my Spanish major, I had to get the mandatory study abroad waived. Rather than live somewhere new and explore, I sat in my apartment and cooked, dreaming of leaving. To the eggs and milk, add in flour, melted butter and a bit of salt. When it’s time to cook, heat a pan with rounded edges over medium-high heat.

Cook the crêpe for 30 seconds or so. Slide the crêpes into a flat pile and let them cool a bit while you repeat the process and make more crêpes. And that’s it. If you’re wondering, no, I still have not been to France, nor have I ventured to Australia. Nutella-Mallow Pillow Pockets. Nigella, their inventor, describes them as 'Disneyfied'. I have to admit I picked this cake because they're cute.

I also chose this cake because I'm addicted to honey at the moment. I go through eating phases, particularly at breakfast. I love this recipe. The final result balances the two flavours of chocolate and honey perfectly. The only problem? Both times I have made it a little circular crater has appeared bang in the middle of the cake. So next time I think I'm going to try a slightly larger tin - probably a 20cm - and see if that helps (I've indicated this in the recipe below, but for reference I used a 6" tin here). To rescue the situation this time I decided to insert a 'marzipan surprise' and turn the cake over. Honeybee Chocolate Cake (adapted from Nigella Lawson's Feast) For the cake: 50g dark chocolate, chopped 135g light brown sugar 115g butter, at room temperature 60ml runny honey 1 egg 100g plain flour For the glaze:

GET OFF YOUR BUTT AND BAKE!: PASTRY. Last night, I decided to make one of my favorite cookies. These little pastry swirls are so delish! I usually use my favorite pie crust recipe, which I have previously posted, but I decided to try a pastry recipe by the Barefoot Contessa. This recipe calls for lots of butter! I used my 14-cup Cuisinart Food Processor (love it) to make the pastry dough. Pastry: 2 cups all purpose flour 1/4 cup granulated or superfine sugar 1/2 tsp. kosher salt 1/2 pound (2 sticks) COLD unsalted butter, diced Directions: Place the flour, sugar, and salt in the bowl of a food processor fitted with a steel blade.

Although I will not be watching, I am still interested in the cake! What does royalty serve on such an occasion? While the royal wedding cake recipe is yet under lock and key, the groom's cake has been revealed. I certainly wouldn't have expected this cake.

Sure, the groom's cake is usually much less fancy than the wedding cake... but this? This refrigerator cake is simple and easy enough for common-folk like myself to whip up in no time flat. Good Ol’ Homemade Brownies — Buns In My Oven. This may be a cooking blog, but I find myself sharing some of my deepest, darkest secrets (never having tried oatmeal before, for instance) here. So far you all have accepted me and all the horrible things I’ve kept hidden for years and years. I can only hope that you will continue to stand by my side as I reveal this next bit of private information about myself.

I prefer my brownies to be made from a box mix. I’m sorry, okay? It’s just who I am and I have to be me. Writing a cooking blog isn’t going to change who I am. It just won’t, okay? Except, well, I’ve recently discovered a brownie recipe so beautiful and delicious and rich and fudgy and chocolatey and oh goodness, I should just go ahead and admit it. Just go ahead and scroll back up there and look at those brownies! This recipe starts out by melting butter and sugar together in a sauce pan, and I know, there are lots of one bowl brownie recipes out there, but these guys are worth the extra dirty dish.

Look! Print Save Ingredients: Homemade Cadbury Creme Eggs. Intro Last week I had my first taste of rhubarb and asparagus. For me those two tastes symbolize Spring more than the presence of Tulips or the gentle warmth of sun (still waiting for that). The tangy tart bite of rhubarb combined with a buttery shortbread crust and cool whipped cream. The bitter taste of a subtle char from a hot roast in the oven set against the mild sweetness in a freshly plucked spear of Asparagus. These are the songs of Spring and I sing them at the top of my lungs after what seems to have been years of cold and dreary days. But there is another taste that has become a Spring tradition – as sacred as congealed cranberry sauce at Thanksgiving, that even though it is laden with ingredients I can’t pronounce I eat it.

One overly sweet bite at a time. Apparently this is the year of taking our favorite guilty pleasures (remember our Rainbow Chip Cake?) In an effort to counteract the incredibly sweet center I coated my eggs in a bittersweet chocolate. Caramel Apple Pie Cupcakes « The Craving Chronicles. It seems like once the weather cools down everyone wants to jump right into pumpkin season. Don’t get me wrong, I love pumpkin as much as anyone else, but to me September is apple season. I was thinking about how often apples get overshadowed by pumpkin a few weeks ago when my husband asked me if I wanted to attend a dinner party with some of his coworkers. “Hrmmm. Maybe…”, I said. “They asked us to bring some kind of food to share”, he said.

That was all I needed to hear. Not one to pass up an opportunity, I agreed, “I’ll go… but only if I can bring dessert.” It took me a while to decide on an approach for these cupcakes. Ultimately, I decided the best way to pack that punch of apple flavor into a cupcake was to use apple pie filling. I was apprehensive while putting these cupcakes together. In the end, they didn’t. They tasted approximately a million times better than I had imagined. I was hoping for good cupcakes, but these were amazing. Caramel Apple Pie Cupcakes Ingredients Directions. How to make Italian meringue buttercream. The Pastry Affair - Home - Butterbeer Cupcakes. This is part IV in a mini-series of Harry Potter snacks from the books brought to life (part I is on Honeydukes treats, part II is all about the cauldron cakes, and part III features every wizard's favorite drink—butterbeer!).

I confess that Butterbeer Cupcakes aren't actually mentioned in the Harry Potter series. In my defense, if JK Rowling had been given one of these while writing the books, she would have found a way to fit them in. They are so exceptional, I wouldn't be surprised if she featured them as a major plot point. I'm only half joking. Humor aside, the release of the final movie is upon us. Yet, as I keep reminding myself, this isn't really goodbye. My collection of Harry Potter books isn't going anywhere. I don't know about you, but I can always use the comfort of an old friend. These Butterbeer Cupcakes are easily on my list of the top three cupcakes of all time (if you put another one in front of me, I just may declare these the winner).
