Badges What is a Badge? badge [baj]: a special or distinctive mark, token, or device worn as a sign of allegiance, membership, authority, achievement, etc. (Source: Dictionary.com) A badge is a symbol or indicator of an accomplishment, skill, quality or interest. From the Boy and Girl Scouts, to PADI diving instruction, to the more recently popular geo-location game, Foursquare, badges have been successfully used to set goals, motivate behaviors, represent achievements and communicate success in many contexts. A “digital badge” is an online record of achievements, tracking the recipient’s communities of interaction that issued the badge and the work completed to get it.

Open Badges Badges What is a badge? A badge is a symbol or indicator of an accomplishment, skill, competency, or interest. S2R Journalist Medal Criteria S2R Medals are a way to demonstrate the skills you learn through sports reporting, such as communication skills, team work, meeting deadlines and media creation skills. There are three types of Medal you can earn which show you learning journalism skills, applying them at a real event e.g. school sports match, and then passing on your skills to others. Each Medal has a Bronze, Silver and Gold level to show how far you have progressed. Each medal has clear criteria so you know what you need to do to earn it and other people can see what you have done by clicking on your badge. To earn an S2R Medal you might have to show your skills, as well as earn other Makewaves badges. The badge criteria is really important because it means everyone has to do the same thing to earn each S2R Medal.
