IN A RUSH? FORGET THE BRUSH! photos: Angela Kohler + thebeautydepartment.com post designed by kristin ess In a world where we can’t stop running late, the fun bun is probably the quickest way from A to Chic. This look comes in über-handy when you wake up late and you’re rushing out the door (or even if you have plenty of time). It’s such a high-brow/low-brow look. Meaning it can be paired with anything from jeans and a tank to a chiffon tiered dress. Step 1: If your hair is straight, use a 1″ curling iron to curl everything under. Step 2: Flip your hair over and gather everything into a ponytail on top of you head, securing it with an elastic ponytail holder. Step 3: On the last time around with the ponytail holder, only pull the ponytail through half way. Step 4: Take the loop you’ve created and spread it out. Step 5: Take the tail end and wrap it around the ponytail base. Step 6: Pin the end of the ponytail to the base using a couple of hair pins/bobby pins. Step 7: Gently pull on pieces and then pin them.

Party Plait Hairstyle | Snegidhi.com [ 11 images ] Party Plait Hairstyle : Plaits helps to create a range of hairstyles that will suit any occasion. Vanilla Sugar Body Scrub - freutcake For years I worked as the manager of a day spa here in California, and while it was quite the stressful job, there were many obvious benefits that came with it! Now a days I dream of the luxuries of body scrubs, facials and waxing. Oh, how the grass is always greener! {photos by Freutcake} Vanilla Olive Oil Sugar Scrub 1/2 cup granulated (white) sugar 2 cups Turbinado sugar (sugar in the raw) 1 Tablespoon honey 1/2 cup extra virgin olive oil 1 Tablespoon Vanilla extract (or your favorite essential oil) Directions: Combine the two sugars in a bowl and mix to incorporate. * This is a coarse scrub, if you would like a more gentle scrub you can substitute brown sugar for the turbinado sugar. * Always exfoliate before shaving to prevent irritation and achieve a better shave. * You may add more olive oil to your jar after packing if you desire a different consistency. * Oil will settle in the jar so stir before using. * I do not recommend using this scrub on your face.

Feather Extensions So the long awaited post is here! Time to “Do it Yourself!” No need to pay the steep prices for getting feather extensions in. Feather extensions can be washed curled and flat ironed. Just do whatever you already do with your hair they are very easy and fun. They can last up to six weeks. Materials Needed: 1. 2. 3. 4. Moonlight Feathers - This shop has lots of the bulk feathers that are shorter and come in packs of a few hundred. Lamplight Feathers – Great prices, you have to buy a few more but it is worth it if you have friends who also want feather extensions. You can find lots of other buying options on Etsy or you can find feathers at your local fishing shop. First hold the feathers up to the hair to see where you want them to be. Pull back the top layer of hair depending on the thickness of the hair you will have to pull back more or less. With your fishing line create a loop around the hair and then thread the two ends through the crimp bead.

Messy bun tutorial (Coat by French Connection) After this post, I got a few requests for a “messy bun” hair tutorial! My boyfriend laughed when I told him that I needed help photographing it. It is a bit unintuitive – a process for making your hair “messier.” That said, this method will probably have to be tailored to fit your individual hair type; it even took me a few tries to photograph and post this tutorial properly, as sometimes it turns out better than others. (Crew neck sweater by J.Crew) FYI, this hairstyle is considerably more difficult on freshly-cleaned, slick hair – it’s much easier to style if it’s a little dirty. Now on to the tutorial! More in-depth explanation: 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. I feel like I should rename this blog to “Hairstyles for lazy people and art students”, because this is seriously the PERFECT way to wear your hair if you are like me and don’t wash your hair daily.
