True Grit: The Best Measure of Success and How to Teach It Can you predict academic success or whether a child will graduate? You can, but not how you might think. When psychologist Angela Duckworth studied people in various challenging situations, including National Spelling Bee participants, rookie teachers in tough neighborhoods, and West Point cadets, she found: One characteristic emerged as a significant predictor of success.

Augmented Reality Apps Will Change the Way You Use Your Phone The line between the real world and the digital world is fading to grey, as Apple and Google gear up to bring augmented reality to your smartphone. Augmented reality - AR for short - takes the digital world and brings it together with your physical environment all in one place. AR has been around for a while, but its latest incarnation could be a game changer. A slew of new apps can help you see that meal before you order it, picture furniture in your home, play high-tech games, and even bring your favorite GIFS into the real world. 150 Teaching Methods Lecture by teacher (and what else can you do!) Class discussion conducted by teacher (and what else!) Recitation oral questions by teacher answered orally by students (then what!) Discussion groups conducted by selected student chairpersons (yes, and what else!) Lecture-demonstration by teacher (and then what 145 other techniques!) Lecture-demonstration by another instructor(s) from a special field (guest speaker) Presentation by a panel of instructors or students Presentations by student panels from the class: class invited to participate Student reports by individuals Student-group reports by committees from the class Debate (informal) on current issues by students from class Class discussions conducted by a student or student committee Forums Bulletin boards Small groups such as task oriented, discussion, Socratic Choral speaking Collecting Textbook assignments Reading assignments in journals, monographs, etc.

Augmented reality NASA X38 display showing video map overlays including runways and obstacles during flight test in 2000. Augmented reality (AR) is a live direct or indirect view of a physical, real-world environment whose elements are augmented (or supplemented) by computer-generated sensory input such as sound, video, graphics or GPS data. It is related to a more general concept called mediated reality, in which a view of reality is modified (possibly even diminished rather than augmented) by a computer. As a result, the technology functions by enhancing one’s current perception of reality.[1] By contrast, virtual reality replaces the real world with a simulated one.[2][3] Augmentation is conventionally in real-time and in semantic context with environmental elements, such as sports scores on TV during a match.

Virtual Reality at the 75th Annual Venice Film Festival - COOL HUNTING On a Venetian island named Lazzaretto Vecchio (aka VR Island) the Venice Film Festival‘s virtual reality division showcases and honors advancements in the cinematic medium, both immersive and linear. For the second annual Venice Virtual Reality program, 30 works were selected from roughly 250—a rising number that reflects the importance of film festivals with regard to VR storytelling. And, as expected from the prestigious event, it’s hard to find a roster as impressive as this. From navigating the cosmos to experiencing an entire life (on the verge of death) through food, the diversity carries profound impact. Control Alt Achieve: Resources Over time I have created quite a few help guides, presentations, and other training resources for Google-related topics and other educational technology topics. Although these resources can be found elsewhere on this site and other locations, I have pulled them all together in one place to make it easy for people to find a needed resource, as well as to be sure you are accessing the most recent version (rather than an older copy made by someone else). All of these resources are licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial 4.0 International license.

WayfairView app debuts in Verizon stores BOSTON — WayfairView, the proprietary 3D augmented reality (AR) application developed by Wayfair Inc., debuted today in all Verizon stores as a featured app on the new ASUS ZenFone AR. The app uses Tango, Google’s AR technology, to let consumers see and manipulate virtual furniture and décor at full scale, in their homes. Because Tango operates on the Android system, WayfairView is available only on Androids. WayfairView comes with a $25 Wayfair gift card for a limited time. The release of WayfairView precedes Wayfair’s second quarter earnings announcement, scheduled for Aug. 8.

How Augmented Reality Works Video games have been entertaining us for nearly 30 years, ever since Pong was introduced to arcades in the early 1970s. Computer graphics have become much more sophisticated since then, and game graphics are pushing the barriers of photorealism. Now, researchers and engineers are pulling graphics out of your television screen or computer display and integrating them into real-world environments. This new technology, called augmented reality, blurs the line between what's real and what's computer-generated by enhancing what we see, hear, feel and smell.
