Science Says: Lungs Love Weed | TakePart - News, Culture, Videos and Photos That Make the World Better

Breathe easy, tokers. Smoking marijuana in moderate amounts may not be so bad for your lungs, after all. A new study, published in this month's Journal of the American Medical Association , tested the lung function of over 5,000 young adults between 18 and 30 to determine marijuana's effect on lungs. After 20 years of testing, researchers found some buzzworthy results: regular marijuana smokers (defined by up to a joint a day for seven years) had no discernable impairment in lung activity from non-smokers.

The Inner Monologue of a Guy Smoking Weed for the First Time | Points in Case

Every time a group of men under the age of 25 gathers for long periods of time, you can bet your last two cents that one of them (probably you) will be smoking weed. Whether it's a road trip, a concert, or a day spent playing Halo 3 , someone is eventually going to bust out the green. Most of your group is used to this, but there's always the odd time a fresh face appears who may not be as chronic-minded as the rest of you, so you, being the good host (and horrible corrupt person) that you are, decide to let the newbie take a hit of the bong, just so he doesn't feel left out.

Top anti-drug researcher changes his mind – says legalize marijuana « Patients for Medical Cannabis

http://patients4medicalmarijuana.wordpress.com/2009/06/04/top-anti-drug-researcher-says-legalize-marijuana/ digg ( Source ) 6.03.09 Over and over again, all the bad things we’ve been told about marijuana are revealed to be not only false, but often the precise opposite of the truth. So the next time someone tells you that marijuana is worse for your lungs than cigarettes, you might want to mention that the world’s leading expert on that subject happens to be a supporter of legalization. For 30 years, Donald Tashkin has studied the effects of marijuana on lung function. His work has been funded by the vehemently anti-marijuana National Institute on Drug Abuse, which has long sought to demonstrate that marijuana causes lung cancer. After 3 decades of anti-drug research, here’s what Tashkin has to say about marijuana laws:

http://www.tokeofthetown.com/2010/06/man_chooses_30_days_in_jail_instead_of_quitting_ma.php Meet the latest marijuana martyr. A 30-year-old Nevada man on Wednesday chose a month in jail instead of probation which would have meant he couldn't use medical marijuana for one year. Charles Ray Balzer of Gardnerville, Nev., told East Fork Justice Jim EnEarl he was unwilling to give up pot for a year, and he would do 30 days in jail after he pleaded guilty to harassment, reports The Record-Courier . Balzer has a legal medical marijuana card from the Nevada State Health Division. He told EnEarl he smokes cannabis and takes a prescription painkiller for a back injury. If Balzer had accepted probation, he could have avoided the jail term, but one condition would have been that he not use "drugs or alcohol" for one year.
