Dog befriends owl. Elephant and Dog Best Friends. Crippled lion is dachshund's best friend. A 500-pound lion and an 11-pound dog have formed an unlikely friendship, proving that cats and dogs really can get along.
The puppies were introduced to Bonedigger in 2008 when he was just a 4-week-old cub. A metabolic bone disease rendered the lion mildly disabled. Park president Joe Schreibvogel — who goes by the name “Joe Exotic” — thinks the lion's state has something to do with the connection the animals formed. “The dogs thought it was just a big puppy and have loved each other since,” he told Today. “I also think they know the lion is not as normal as the rest.” Foal & Dog Play Tag! A mother like no other. Lisha, a Labrador, is world famous for her mothering skills even though she’s never birthed any pups of her own.
The dog, who lives at Oudtshoorn’s Cango Wildlife Ranch in South Africa, has played surrogate mom to more than 30 animals, including cheetah and tiger cubs, potbelly pigs, a porcupine, a pygmy hippo, a weasel and a barn owl. Rob Hall, director of the wildlife refuge, says that Lisha domesticates the wild animals and serves as a bridge between them and humans. “They adjust more easily to her, and when they see that she trusts us, they are more at ease around us," he said. Dog and Cat friends. The friendship between dogs and cats is entirely possible and there are many studies that have been done, and even being made, about the affection of these two species.
It is beautiful to see and tell interesting stories of how our pets are easily made friends, play games and are protected from each other. Real-Life Fox And The Hound Best Friends. Sheepdogs protect endangered penguins. "No foxes have killed penguins in the past seven years" This is clever.
Very clever. Sheepdogs are bred and trained to protect sheep against wolves, but that doesn't mean that their skills can't be used to protect different animals against other species of predators. This is exactly what the Maremma Project did on Warrnambool’s Middle Island, off the south coast of Australia.

The family brought the young feline—now named Bootsie— into their home, and before long, their Pekingese dog, Mittens, began affectionately licking and nudging the kitten, until ultimately lying down beside him. After three days, 4-year-old Mittens, who had not been pregnant in two years, developed milk for the feeble kitten and nursed Bootsie back to health. Debby Cantlon, who plans to release Finnegan, the young squirrel, back into the wild, bottle-fed the infant squirrel after it was brought to her house.
When Cantlon took in the tiny creature and began caring for him, she found herself with an unlikely nurse’s aide: her pregnant Papillion, Mademoiselle Giselle. Finnegan was resting in a nest in a cage just days before Giselle was due to deliver her puppies. Cantlon and her husband watched as the dog dragged the squirrel’s cage twice to her own bedside before she gave birth. Cantlon was concerned, yet ultimately decided to allow the squirrel out and the inter-species bonding began. Finnegan rides a puppy mosh pit of sorts, burrowing in for warmth after feeding, eventually working his way beneath his new litter mates.
Two days after giving birth, mama dog Giselle allowed Finnegan to nurse; family photos and a videotape show her encouraging him to suckle alongside her litter of five pups. Last year, visitors to Busch Gardens Tampa Bay were first introduced to an adorable pair of newborns -- a tiny cheetah cub named Kasi, and a yellow-lab puppy named Mtani. Although they shared little in common beyond the timing and circumstances of their birth, the bonds of friendship soon proved too strong to be diminished by their differences. “They absolutely love each other,” said one zoo official. In fact, 12 months on, the cheetah-puppy relationship seems destined to be a lifelong one yet. Dog Plays With His Dolphin Friend. Dog and Leopard Friends. Dog & Elephant friends. Best Cat Friend. Hound Dog and Orangutan.
True Friends After losing his parents, this 3 year old orangutan was so depressed he wouldn't eat and didn't respond to any medical treatments.
The veteranarians thought he would surely die from sadness. The zoo keepers found an old sick dog on the grounds in the park at the zoo where the orangutan lived and took the dog to the animal treatment center. The dog arrived at the same time the orangutan was there being treated. The 2 lost souls met and have been inseparable ever since. The orangutan found a new reason to live and each always tries his best to be a good companion to his new found friend. They live in Northern California where swimming is their favorite past time, although Roscoe (the orangutan) is a little afraid of the water and needs his friend's help to swim.
