(PCGNY photos) As part of its ongoing effort to engage with Filipinos and Filipino-Americans in the U.S. Northeast Region through Sports Diplomacy, the Philippine Consulate General in New York personnel formed the PHL Basketball Team and participated in the NJ Baller Winter Basketball Tournament in Jersey City, N.J. from Jan. 28 to April 22, 2018. The PHL Basketball Team, composed of personnel from the Consulate General and the Philippine Mission to the United Nations, their family members and friends, played their hearts out and surprisingly won the championship in one of the divisions.
Most of the participants in the tournament come from New York, New Jersey and nearby states such as Pennsylvania. There were two divisions with nine teams in each division.
