Evaluation Rubric for Educational Apps

Fourth and fifth graders at the school are piloting one-to-one computing with iPod touches. In addition, Harry is a doctoral student at John Hopkins University. He's investigating the impact of iPod touch on student achievement. One of his challenges is wading through the huge number apps available. He's crafted a rubric to evaluate the quality and effectiveness of an app in terms of how it may impact student achievement. Harry is looking for feedback about his rubric. Don't forget there's a great app review community at iear.org where educators review educational apps. HippoCampus - Free Videos and Primary Source Documents. HippoCampus - Free Videos and Primary Source Documents

HippoCampus is essentially a huge repository for educational videos that are grouped into a series of videos that comprise ‘courses’. HippoCampus features videos in content areas such as Math, Natural Science, Social Sciences, and Humanities. The nice thing about HippoCampus is that it vets all the videos it syndicates from its sources, meaning that random YouTube videos are not included, but great videos from Khan Academy are. It also lists a ton of resources for further learning via links underneath the streaming video. HippoCampus is a project of the Monterey Institute for Technology and Education (MITE). I think that many students will find great value in this site as students tend to have lots of questions about math once they get home and don’t always have the resources to find help.

One year later dozens if not hundreds of applications have been created that enhance the quality of life for individuals with all types of disabilities.

To try and make sense of all of this we have put together a nine part series on the iPad and useful applications. Cogs of the Cognitive Processes I began to think about the triangular shape of Bloom's Taxonomy and realized I thought of it a bit differently.Since the cognitive processes are meant to be used when necessary, and any learner goes in and out of the each level as they acquire new content and turn it into knowledge, I created a different type of image that showcased my thoughts about Bloom's more meaningfully. Here is my visual which showcases the interlocking nature of the cognitive processes or, simply, the "Cogs of the Cognitive Processes".
