Reilhac runs with ‘ultra-trail’ transmedia project
EXCLUSIVE: Former Arte Cinema chief also developing interactive film geo-location App Cinema City. Former Arte Cinema chief Michel Reilhac, who left the Franco-German broadcaster last November to focus on his transmedia interests, has announced his first major project: a multi-platform work exploring the world of the high endurance sport ultra-trailing. “It’s a personal project which I’ve been writing for some two years,” explains Reilhac, who has reactivated his production company Mélange, which was mothballed during his time at Arte, and now defines himself as an auteur and transmedia consultant and producer. Provisionally entitled Ultra-trail , the work draws inspiration from the world of ultra-trailing, an increasingly popular sport consisting of 150 to 200-kilometre marathons, such as the Ultra-Trail du Mont-Blanc and Grand Canyon Ultra Marathon, in which participants run for some 40 hours non-stop.

Michel Reilhac is currently Executive Director of Arte France Cinéma and Director of Film Acquisitions for ARTE France . He was previously Executive Director of Forum des Images in Paris, General Manager of the American Centre in Paris and of the National Theater of Chaillot in Paris, Executive Director of the National Centre for Contemporary Dance in Angers, France. He was also a producer-curator-author through his own organisation,”Les Arts Etonnants” (Amazing Arts) of participatory events such as: - “Les Arts Etonnants 92″, an interactive exhibition of time-based works by Heather Ackroyd and Dan Harvey, Andreas Heinecke ( Dialogue in the Dark ), Stephen Taylor Woodrow - Dark/Noir based on darkness as a medium (Avignon Festival 93, Paris 94)
La création audiovisuelle et cinématographique se singularise depuis quelques années par une croissance spectaculaire des services et des nouveaux outils bénéficiant à plein de la force du numérique (Internet, VOD, TNT, ADSL, Catch-up…). Ces services, tout comme les nouveaux modes de consommation des spectateurs et téléspectateurs, déstabilisent fortement les médias historiques et le modèle économique traditionnel du secteur audiovisuel et amène de nombreux professionnels du cinéma et de l’audiovisuel à penser et à travailler autrement. Il s’agit désormais pour eux de chercher des relais de croissance susceptibles de renforcer leurs activités, de trouver de nouveaux marchés et surtout de se projeter dans un monde nouveau dans lequel l’écriture, les financements, la promotion et la distribution ne sont déjà plus vraiment les mêmes.
