What to buy? - Personal/DIY 3D printers up to $3,500 - 3d Printing

Then take a look at this overview. Here you will find all companies and communities that sell personal/DIY 3D printers with a maximum price of $3,500 USD. Adjunct Engineering LLC About: Billy Zelsnack from Adjunct Engineering LLC recently launched his desktop 3D printer on Kickstarter and already has enough backers to reach his primary goal to realize the printer. The Printxel 3D printer is a complete kit including the mechanics, motors, extruder, electronics, power supply, but not including heated platform.

The Buko framework is the next generation of Open Source 3D Printers. 3D printers using this new framework are called Bukobots. With many months in development, I have combined the best ideas from the open source community and some new ideas of my own into an extremely flexible open source 3D printer design. Following the traditions of “Reprap” 3D printers, the new Buko framework design is self-replicating and does not require any special machining for it’s major parts. 3D printing is the process of creating solid objects from digital files.

Azteeg X1 3D Printer Controller v1.5 RoHS. Description: The Azteeg X1 3DP is an open source controller designed to be used in RepRap 3D Printers and similar cartesian based machines including CNCs.

Azteeg X1 3D Printer Controller v1.5 RoHS

It has all the features needed to run all current and future single extruder designs. Will work with Prusa Mendel, Mendel Max, Ordbot, Printrbot and most 3D printers The Azteeg X1 is based on Sanguino/Sanguinololu and is compatible with most Arduino based firmware(Sprinter, Marlin, Repetier, plus others.). MakerSlide Open Source Linear Bearing System by Barton Dring

I am not very good at that kind of thing, but I am good at designing and building CNC and digital fabrication equipment. I have a great idea for a linear bearing system. I hope you will take the time to hear/read my pitch and consider donating to this project. A big cost driver and fabrication hurdle for home built CNC equipment is the linear bearing system. Commercial systems are expensive. There are hundreds of DIY methods. My proposal is to create a standardized replacement for a lot of those solutions. I know there are commercial system similar to this. My goal is a sell price of $0.10 per centimeter. MakerShip Program.

There are some great kits out there - the Makerbot, the Ultimaker, the Prusa Mendel, and others - but none as small and simple as the Printrbot. This all-in-one 3D printer kit can be assembled and printing in a couple of hours. Other kits will not only take you many more hours to build, they will also have hundreds more parts, and they will cost more. Siliconfish: Arduino based XYZ CNC Carving Machine. Siliconfish: Arduino based XYZ CNC Carving Machine

After some poking around researching building a small CNC machine for light carving, I came to the conclusion that the Zen toolworks CNC machine was a good deal and would shave months off my project. I figured by the time I collected steppers, lead screws, made parts etc I'd spend a more than this and get a worse result. This kit is the stage, leadscrews and steppers. No electronics/drivers are included. It is fairly small but it looks like a great leg up. Block Diagram (SBD) - Motor Control: Stepper Motor End Equipment Solution.

Stepper Motor Overview The stepper motor has a rotor with permanent magnets mounted on it, while the stator has a minimum of two windings.

Block Diagram (SBD) - Motor Control: Stepper Motor End Equipment Solution

When the rotor magnet aligns with the stator winding, the second winding is energized. The two windings are turned on and off alternately; this causes the motor to lock on to the desired step position. The direction of the current through the winding can also be reversed. In a stepper motor with two stator windings, there are clearly four steps, separated by 90 degrees. The speed control of a stepper motor is achieved by the pulse frequency provided to the windings, while the direction of rotation can be changed by reversing pulse sequences. Stepper motors can be controlled in full steps, half steps or micro steps, depending on the control techniques used. Stepper Motor Control - H-Bridge. The H-Bridge The original concept of the H-Bridge was being able to control the direction a motor was going.

Forward or backward. This was achieved by managing current flow through circuit elements called transistors. OSM - Optimal Stepper Motor Manufacturer. Stepper Motor Advantages and Disadvantages Advantages: 1.

Controlling floppy stepper motors from FTDI USB chips in bitbang mode - Electron Cloud. From Electron Cloud I have several old Teac FD-55GFR 5¼" floppy drives, and wondered if the steppers could be used for a miniature 3-axis RepRap or some other type of CNC machine; it would be especially nice to re-use the controller boards as well, since they are compact enough. As a basic feasibility experiment, I wanted to try to control them from a DLP Design DLP-2232 board which I already had handy. That's quite a versatile board - it connects via USB and can provide two logic-level serial ports, or a bunch of GPIO pins, and there are drivers for Linux, MacOS and Windows. FTDI DLP-USB245 USB/FIFO Interface applied to motor control. The USB's many advantages have led designers to come up with a wide range of applications for the bus.

For example, the figure shows a USB-based controller for four stepper motors built using inexpensive off-the-shelf components. The circuit requires no microcontroller or DSP. It uses simple logic circuitry and application software to control selection of the stepper motors, their clockwise or counter-clockwise motion, and the step size: full step, half step, or microstep. The design is based on a USB-to-FIFO parallel interface module (IC1). The module, a DLP-USB245M (for details, go to www.dlpdesign.com), provides an 8-bit bidirectional data bus and control signals like WR, RD, RXF, and TXE, which can be used to control the data flow between the PC and any external circuit employing the USB protocol.
