Enhancing Education: The 5 E's The 5 E's is an instructional model based on the constructivist approach to learning, which says that learners build or construct new ideas on top of their old ideas. The 5 E's can be used with students of all ages, including adults. Each of the 5 E's describes a phase of learning, and each phase begins with the letter "E": Engage, Explore, Explain, Elaborate, and Evaluate. The 5 E's allows students and teachers to experience common activities, to use and build on prior knowledge and experience, to construct meaning, and to continually assess their understanding of a concept. toolkit This toolkit is categorized into different activities that you may want to undertake with your students ranging from communication to sharing material to online lectures and so on. Each category contains our recommendations for the tools to use, with a description of the tool, a text based user guide as well as instructional videos. Classroom Alarm Clock Classroom Alarm Clock At seminars I've been sharing with secondary teachers the idea of using a short song as a cue to indicate that it's time for students to pack up. (The Mission Impossible theme song that comes on the CD with the book, Eight Great Ideas, is forty-nine seconds long and works really well for this.) There are several advantages to using a song. Advantage 1: The Certainty Principle Without a consistent cue, students are on their own in determining when to pack up.
