Listening While Feminist: In Defense of “Baby It’s Cold Outside” in Feminism on Persephone Magazine. Editor’s note: Please enjoy this featured post from our archives. I’m a pretty voracious consumer and critic of American popular culture. I’m one of those 3rd wavers who believes that the deconstruction of all aspects of pop culture is an important aspect of feminism or any sort of progressive movement. Mass culture is the stew we all live in; when we learn to look at it critically, we can discuss the messages we’re soaking in every day.

The real life models for Classic Pin-Up paintings A series of comparisons between the classic pinup girls and photos that have served as models for achieving them;) via Most Amazing Miniature Food Artworks by Shay Aaron Shay Aaron is a brilliant artist from Israel who makes the most astonishing miniature food jewelry. These foodstuffs look so beautiful that we would desire to eat them. Actually, there’s a whole market out there for miniature food. Not actual stuff you can eat, but beautifully hand made designs of steaks, burgers, pies, vegetables, eggs and pretty much food artworks you can think of. Comments comments Rune Guneriussen & Escape Into Life These dream-like installations are assembled, and then photographed by Norwegian artist Rune Guneriussen. Just imagine being out for a walk in Norway’s countryside, turning a corner and discovering a magical forest of lamps, a tangle of chairs, or a river of books. Sadly, once the photograph is taken, Rune removes the installation, the only proof of it’s existence being these images… sort of like waking up from an amazing dream that you could have sworn was real. As an artist, I believe strongly that art itself should be questioning and bewildering as opposed to patronising and restricting. As opposed to the current fashion I do not want to dictate a way to the understanding of my art, but rather indicate a path to understanding a story. Rune Guneriussen’s site

SlutWalk SlutWalk is a transnational movement[1] of protest marches which began on April 3, 2011,[2] in Toronto, Ontario, with subsequent rallies occurring globally.[3] Participants protest against explaining or excusing rape by referring to any aspect of a woman's appearance,[4] and call for an end to rape culture.[5] The rallies began after Constable Michael Sanguinetti, a Toronto Police officer, suggested that "women should avoid dressing like sluts"[6][7] as a precaution against unwanted sexual attention. The protest takes the form of a march, mainly by young women, where some dress as "sluts" in revealing attire. Inception[edit] Constable Michael Sanguinetti[edit] "We are tired of being oppressed by slut-shaming; of being judged by our sexuality and feeling unsafe as a result.
