Homemade versions of Girl Scout cookies

Homemade versions of Girl Scout cookies
I admit it: We’re Thin Mint addicts in our house. I try to limit the number of boxes I buy each season because they aren’t particularly healthy or earth-friendly. But, I have many friends with daughters in the Girl Scouts, and the Thin Mints are just so yummy. My 7-year-old didn’t even realize there was any other flavor of Girl Scout cookies than Thin Mints. When one of my friends asked him what kind of cookies he wanted to buy from his daughter he said, “You know. Girl Scout cookies,” with a confused look on his face. One reason that Girl Scout cookies hold such a spell over many people is that they are only available for a limited time. Whether you’re looking to create a healthier version of the cookies that you like so much or you want a way to get your fix during the off-season, try your hand at these recipes for Girl Scout-like cookies. Chocolate Chip Cheesecake Dip « Slice & Dice 6 Oct This dip might put me into rehab. It is so addicting. I couldn’t get a grip. Homemade Tortillas Making soft delicious tortillas at home is surprisingly easy. In fact, once I started making my own suddenly all our dinners and lunches were rolled up in fresh tortillas. The dough is made from flour, shortening, water, and salt. I had all the ingredients on hand but the shortening.. which ended up only costing two dollars and has lasted through many many batches of tortillas. Peanut Butter Cup Chocolate Cake Cheesecake Last week I got an email from a kind reader asking if I would consider developing a recipe for one of her favorite "factory-made" desserts. The minute I clicked the link she provided, I knew I wanted to make her cheesecake dreams come true. I had concerns about how this cake would translate to real world baking. No doubt it is mass-produced with industrial equipment since it is sold nationwide at a popular restaurant chain. I knew I would have to simplify each of the recipe's elements and keep the baking equipment simple. With its many layers, the recipe I came up with is time consuming, but it will not be difficult for the home baker to execute.

Cinnamon Roll Sugar Cookies These are divine. Truly. They taste just like your favorite breakfast treat but in fabulous cookie form. Scarletta Bakes Howdy. Have a cookie. You’ll need it to sustain you through the following paragraphs of immensely dorky cowboy references. Yee haw. These cookies are pretty much my favorite of all time – the confectionery equivalent of a supreme or trashcan pizza. GET OFF YOUR BUTT AND BAKE!: PASTRY Last night, I decided to make one of my favorite cookies. These little pastry swirls are so delish! I usually use my favorite pie crust recipe, which I have previously posted, but I decided to try a pastry recipe by the Barefoot Contessa. This recipe calls for lots of butter! I used my 14-cup Cuisinart Food Processor (love it) to make the pastry dough. It's so easy in a food processor, so if you haven't invested in one, do so very soon!

Easy Raspberry Lemonade Easy Raspberry Lemonade I just can’t get enough fresh lemonade in the summer. It’s so fun to make with my son, and so easy. I sit him on the counter and he helps squeeze the lemons. He loves to be “mommy’s little chef.” Nutella Cinnamon Rolls May 10, 2011 | Print | E-mail | Filed under bread, nutella There are some days that I just lose my appetite. It might be because of my mood, or that nothing sounds good, or that I’m in a food rut again and need to spice things up a bit. When my appetite comes back though, what I’m inevitably craving is some sort of comfort food. Yesterday happened to be one of those days, and by the end of the day all I could think about was a warm cinnamon roll fresh from the oven. Fortunately, over the weekend I whipped up a batch of my go-to recipe…only this time, I halved the recipe so that I’d only get 3 pans of rolls instead of 6.

Nutella Chocolate Chip Cookies ***Last Friday night, Brad and I got an invite to an impromptu dinner party...What fun! We were both excited, and of course, I immediately started to think about what I could take along for dessert. I was in the mood for cookies, but not the same-ole', same-ole' variety. I wanted to try something new, but using the ingredients that I had on-hand was a necessity. A trip to the grocery store was not in the cards if I wanted to be on time.
