Whole milk, preferably, that has been chilled to precisely 33.9 degrees. But that’s another story for another time. My dad, on the other hand, has always been a dark chocolate addict. And it doesn’t have to be my home that makes it. It can be anyone’s home. I just think homemade baklava tends to have a little more flavor…a little more freshness…a little more somethin’ somethin’ than a lot of the baklava you buy. Not that I buy a lot of baklava in Pawhuska, Oklahoma. But still. Baklava makes a great Christmas treat: give a whole pan to someone you love or split it up into portions and gift them in little boxes or bags. Peanut Butter Cookie Dough Brownies. I'm not kidding when I say I'd rather peruse the thrift racks there - 5 minutes from my house - where I could potentially get an entire bag of (close to new) clothing for $30, as opposed to making the 20 minute drive to the mall where I would spend that for just ONE shirt. The whole baking thing. Before….in the macaroni and cheese kitchen….nothing I baked ever turned out. My cookies would run off the baking stone or be solid as a rock and my cake would get done around the edges and be raw in the middle and my pies sometimes sunk like the top of a volcano. Once….at a party….my brownies were so hard that when I tried to cut them…..the whole brownie sheet flew across the room and landed on the floor. But the answer to becoming a better baker was there all along…..staring me in the face. All I had to do….. …..was actually follow the directions. Are you laughing? *sigh* Salted Brownies.
